What (if anything) do you hate about Football in the 2020s?

Pretty much everything posted so far, and I'll add the ability of the bigger clubs to whisk away the talent that has progressed through a teams academy when they turn 17 for peanuts.

This has happened to us (West Brom) so many times recently, the supposed very good Villa academy players has at least 5 or 6 players they stole from us. Man City, Chelsea & Barcalona have all knicked our kids!.. Now I don't blame these kids for moving to where the money is, but clubs should pay proper compensation, not the current paltry 250K.
Spot on. It's disgusting, designed to keep the big boys out of the shit. Academy failing?....no bother, help yourself to your neighbours wonder kid for peanuts.

Yeah, that's why i can't understand why 70s 80s and 90s, are like the ultimate expression of football, when that Barça side, it was outstanding, this city side however, getting close to it
They don’t have the Messi factor though, he’s the goat for me……at one time I’d have said Diego but his star burned for like 4-5 years whereas Messi has been breathing different air for the best part of 15……he’s far and away the best I’ve seen.
Footballers, Maja a good example, getting called “snakes” for moving clubs

It’s ridiculous

Imagine getting called a snake in your own life for getting a better job and more money
Same thing happened with Don Hutch, he moved for like £10k a week more, if ya mate got that kind of rise you’d be buzzing for him

I’m old, so…….
Diving,
Not using VAR properly,
Taking an age checking VAR when one or two views usually tells you what you need to know,
Refs bottling early cards,
Offside decisions when it is far too close to call,
Murdering owners,
Whinging players when said player has obviously fouled or put the ball out for a throw/corner,
Placing the ball outside the corner quadrant….for that extra couple of centimetres closer to the box,

Grumble….Moan….Jumpers for goalposts etc……

I can’t argue with you mate.
Just love to go back in time to a packed terraced Town End under the lights and Swindon kicking into our end second half.
Just once to remember how good it was. I can only dream.
So many brilliant terrace memories. Newcastle v Brighton in the cup when they beat us in a replay. .Referee Trelford Mills cheated us but what will never leave me is the memory of the waves of noise roaring us forward, spine tingling stuff. Two other games, not even involving my team. Sunderland v Palace FA Cup QF, 1976. I got a ticket for the Roker End and went to watch. Spent most of the game looking across at the Fulwell. I hadn't seen anything like it. Just one big seething mass.of red and white. I was 11 at the time and just loved going to the match, any match. My older mate who'd taken me cried on the bus home. I started going to Newcastle in my own the following season. Nowadays I can barely watch a match as a neutral.

Remember going to yours FA Cup game when we were 4th Division.
Lost 5-0 Gazza destroyed us.
Atmosphere electric and lovely memories looking across at the Gallowgate terrace packed and swaying.

This used to annoy me too, but as slowly become the norm.

The YouTubers videoing THEMSELVES and talking to their phone throught the game. Put your phone down or I'm going to chuck it on the pitch myself, you self absorbed, narcissistic tw@t.
If they have fun doing that and you get that angry maybe your anger issues are the problem.
Let people live their lives

The game that ended up getting Sunderland promoted in a roundabout fashion. I wasn't at that game as I was living away at the time and couldn't get home too often. I always enjoyed watching Gascoigne play, but my favourite was Beardsley. He was out of this world in my eyes, not seen a better player in the flesh.

More than I like about it, in fact if it wasn’t for Sunderland I’d not watch a game.

this for me anarl like. i can vividly remember the last game i watched as a neutral, it was when man u beat arsenal 4-0 in the fa cup and wenger cried about show boating leading to them throwing away the title that season iirc.

oddly enough it was a really good game

but aye, modern football has been sliding down the toilet for many years now and just more and more about it turns my fucknig stomach

God where do you start

Cheating
VAR
Pundits (not one decent one )
Women pundits no one has heard of to be trendy
You Tube bloggers
Stupid kids with card board cut outs begging for shirts
The cost
Sky sports transfer shows
Games getting called off even though these premier league clubs have a squad of a 1000
No fa cup replays

You criticise pundits then women pundits?

Referees failing to give a foul unless the player goes over.
Club football being on virtually every day of the week. UEFA started impinging on Thursday with the Europa League and now we're getting an increasing number of domestic cup and league games then as well.
It didn't start with the europa league, european cups have been played on Thursday nights for years before the europa league:confused:

Diving, gamesmanship and all round shithousery do my head in.

But the thing I hate the most is how football is now, really, a closed shop at the top.

The dream of being able to build a team to win the league has died and the clubs at the top are so rich it’s essentially a oligopoly, with collusion to ensure it stays that way (e.g the ESL)
