do you not think most people have more pride in there north east roots than in english as a whole.

there was talk a few years ago about celebrating st cuthberts day in the north east, does anyone think that would be a good idea.

I'm British.

me too

English government didn't go to that much trouble concuring the nations of Wales, Scotland and Ireland, creating the base for the greatest empire ever known for us to be called 'English'

I'm English, but it's irrelevant as i am from various stock. I am proud to be English but i don't think it makes me better than anyone else.

I take no pride in the random happenstance of fate which put me on this island. And it's not as if England does anything in particular to make me proud to be a part of it.

I'm English, but I'm more proud of my Northern roots than England as a whole.

I don't know what it means to be English. I suppose it's being born in England. But if someone asked me where I was from I'd say Sunderland.

But I think nationalities and race are bullshit anyway.

Means I can have a full English breakfast of Danish bacon, German sausages, Scotch eggs, Chinese tea, French toast etc etc etc.

I feel English, not British, but overall I'm more proud to be from the north east. I'll have a bit of a celebration of St George's Day but mainly because I'm shit sick of my mates getting their knickers in a twist over St Patrick's Day when they're not Irish so I insist we have a drink for St George.
