What crackdown? Hospital car parks raked in a record £175m last year

45.5 million active driving licenses in the UK and 37.3 million registered vehicles. So I got it the wrong way round but still no correlation to the tune of 8 million
The number of miles driven is increasing, hence the need for more cars. More people are driving more miles.

Doesn't the NHS make money from this that funds treatments, building upkeep etc? And in other industries people have to pay to park at work too (or get no parking at all!). And if you made it free people would abuse it and park there to do there shopping / work elsewhere (at some hospitals this is worse than others).

Playing devils advocate a little, but there's two sides to every arguement. And IMHO it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things that government could address.

Where I do think it should be free is people who have no choice to attend regularly (ie monthly treatments) for the long term AND have restricted mobility. But even then they probably get a blue badge (which means free) or can get PTS?

Lots of hospitals charge Blue Badge Holders, but generally a fixed fee so not as bad for them....However some visitors to the hospital can pay £25.00 to £30.00 per day to visit sick family members, expensive if they have to make more than one visit during a weekly period.

£30? That is surely not in the North East. Most I have seen for 24 hours is about £8

Apart from the unlicensed and uninsured drivers that is lol. Estimated 1 in 40 drivers don't have a license
They shouldn't be behind the wheel tbf.
Some insurance companies can be right kernts if you get hit by an uninsured driver as well.
They can't recoup the costs, so try to blame you!

There is a central fund for them to claim against for uninsured drivers. No reason for them to be twats.

Unlicensed drivers shouldn't be behind the wheel but they do

Yep....but it goes to pay for loads of stuff as already posted. They rake in quite a lot down here in most areas - In effect its another tax on the sick.
If used by trust for health services then that's good but if it finds its way to some shiny suited salesman that's a different matter
