What’s the going rate for a paper round these days?

Remember doing the weekly free paper.....backbreaking! Half the fuckers got dumped.
They were a canny rate though and more money for more pages. I finished my round in an old folks'home so they often got a few extra copies each. Me and my brother split about 650 between us but used to cover for each other and the weeks with the whole round were a killer.

I got £4.20 a week for 6 mornings and evenings around 1984. Sunday was £1 a round so speed was of the essence - I could double my weekly wage if I ran fast enough!

Best part of the round was Xmas time. Used to buy loads of cards and stuck one in each paper merry Xmas from your paper boy. Could easily make 50 quid. You were the king of your domain. The ones that didn't tip used to weirdly get missed or have late deliveries from then on.

There were some perks for the light fingered paperboy - quite easy to obtain tabs and grumble mags to sell on.

I got £7 for a chronicle round - 5 weeknights and sat afternoon. Took about 45 mins on a bike so was a decent round. This was c.1994. As mentioned the free paper was a better gig but no one ever lasted long as the temptation to dump them was too great!

I used to get £4 a week for 30 papers a day in 1993/4? There were other newsagents that paid more at the time too.

I used to get £3.50 for around 30 houses.
All up the top end of the village that required my bike. Always on time, happy to read the footy reports, polite and reliable.

For a kid at school Christmas was special as virtually every house gave me a tip.
£70 to £80 quid back then was a lot of money.
There was some real lovely people I delivered to and would always chat.
Always remember two big Chow Chow dogs, Rufus and Amber, had to put the papers in a box outside the gate as a “Beware of the Dog” sign.
The owner absolutely horrified one Morning as both leaning over the fence having cuddles with me. She couldn’t believe it, became my friends the 4th house on the round. 40 plus years ago - happy memories.
My lad gets £11 a week for 5 weekday mornings.

Good lad.👍

I remember in the mid-60s having to go somewhere in the town to be checked out by the local authority to deliver papers. My introduction to red tape.
