I have a cousin in the Philippines names Socrates. No lie. Everyone in the family calls him "Soc" (prounced "sohk") which isn't any better

I might have mentioned this one before but there was a woman at work called Almond. She used to go nuts (no pun intended) if people pronounced it as 'Armond', insisting on 'Ollmond'.
