Wetherspoons selling off real ales at 99p/pint ahead of lockdown

crack on. cheap as owt that, can't complain if you like a good deal.

i'd rather pay extra and drink in a proper pub, with the comforting knowledge that i'm not adding further nails into coffin of another a part of british culture, i.e the pub

one day, when all we have is a country filled with towns that are unrecognisable to each other - mcdonalds, costa coffee, weatherspoons, william hills, greggs, B+M bargains and tesco - there'll be hundreds of thousands of old, red faced, high cholesterol, sex starved patriots blaming anyone and everyone for attacking british culture. fuck weatherspoons

Think that day has already arrived, most towns have been taken over by the big boys and independent traders are being shifted out.

How many proper pubs are there left, however?

Even the majority of local boozers will be under the banner of a pubco. Whether that is an actual chain, or tenanted. A lot that you think of as independent are probably tenanted so still paying into the pocket of corporate shareholders.

The Neverspoons app is good for this. It takes your location and pinpoints local pubs that are independent and those that are chains

Imagine being so poor that you have to drink in 'spoons man. Doesn't even bear thinking about.
I like my local one to be honest. Good selection of drinks, "you get what you pay for" food and no shite music blasting out in the background. Aye it attracts the scratter element but as long as they keep themselves to themselves its fine.
