Wetherspoons selling off real ales at 99p/pint ahead of lockdown

How far back was this?

👆😊
I don't think i need to ask what your point is, krusty, not that i care.
None of my mates have gone teetotal but most have cut down massively. Monthly nights out instead of atleast once a week back then. Spoons was a regular starting point on a night out then. 3 or 4 cheap pints before moving on as it was all about getting as much beer into us for as cheap as possible back then.
Interesting perspective.

Lots of bars here in Houston (and beyond) have shuffleboard tables:

A few pub games are good, and add to the atmosphere.
£20 to play crazy golf, then off for chicken and chips at Nandos always sounds a bit rubbish to me, but seems to be what a lot of teenagers are apparently into. Would obviously be sad if that's what took the place of the pub.

Activities are good but each have their place.

I love playing football, walking, running and loads of other activities and the reward is often beer.
Exactly, I'll play footy for an hour and half tonight then refuel and take the piss out of the lads with a gallon of lager afterwards watching the Champions League games - no amount of escape rooms, bowling or coffee house beats that

The world has gone barmy. All these distractions on a night out are needed because these people are socially inadequate and cannot entertain themselves by taking the piss out of each other for ten hours at a time.

You have a way with words Harry but I completely agree

Stuff thats been mentioned as a substitute for a night out - wall climbing, bowling, out for food - its stuff I do with the kids and theyre 7 and 5 not with adults. We work long and hard enough a night out and genuine abuse is the best release you get

I’d give up most things in life before I gave up my mates. Interaction and being out in the world is always interesting and entertaining.
I understand that there are introverts but how is it that a whole generation is incapable of entertaining themselves without some sort of lame distraction.
If I was in a pub and it had board games and one of my mates said do want to play monopoly or connect 4 they would be mercilessly mocked every time they came out and it would be mentioned at their funeral.

Same - we basically sit and talk utter bollox for hours, some of the piss taking is brutal aswell

Have to say I am 38 and my mates want to go to an escape room as part of a night out next week and I think I'm just going to wait for them in the pub while they do that.

I refuse to do “activities” on a stag do. Why the fuck do I want to go and play virtual golf or go f***ing go-karting?! 😂

On the last stag I attended the best man was trying to get people to go llama trekking 😂

Between 1994 and 2000 52 weeks a year

Thursday pub, Friday pub then night club, Saturday pub then night club, Sunday pub. Come rain or shine and sometimes workies on a Monday if any money left

Lads weekend in Tenerife this Thursday, while we may hit the loud stuff later, I just love it when we all sit round during the day, drinking and just having a laugh.

I did one and very nearly stayed in the pub, decided to not be a Scrooge and join in somewhat grudgingly.
It was white water rafting and was a bloody brilliant time, worked up an excellent thirst as well.

You hang with an unforgiving crowd.
Whats wrong with seeing a rolly smoking gammon with purple hooter and a rolled copy of the sun at 08.55 waiting for spoons to open its doors?
There's nothing wrong with seeing that. Whoever has told you that it's wrong tell them where to go. Then continue to queue with your fag and newspaper as you have always done.

I knar, not sure the snobs of Wetherby are going to be amused though.😜
Since when was wetherby a posh area? I've been there a good few times and the centre is like Pallion on steroids. Pubs, takeaways supermarkets, charity shops and the wetherby whaler chip shop. How can a Wetherspoon's lower the tone of that?

Even in the rough areas there's still people who act like snobs/think of themselves as well off.Donkeys years since I passed through tbh, seemed OK from I what i recall.Ill take your word it's gone downhill.

It hasn't gone downhill it is what it is. An average town that certainly doesn't appear to be posh. I like wetherby it's got a nice riverside and park that is pleasant for a walk. But I've never thought of it as full of snobs and a bit posh.

The West side of the town towards Harrogate and to the South West in Linton is all massive mansions like. It's a posh place to be fair, similar to Ponteland which if you went only to the town centre is nowt or something.

Wetherby · Wetherby, Vereinigtes Königreich - You don't get houses like than in Pallion.

I'd give axe throwing a go and enjoy an indoor crazy gold thing we did a while back but an escape room doesn't appeal.
Funnily enough, I went to a stag do feat an escape room earlier this year, expecting nothing, and had a blast. Axe throwing doesn't appeal, but my little brother likes it.
A pub in Cambridge has recently reopened offering crazy golf, shuffleboard (whatever that is) and street food stalls. It really is a new world.
Played that after in a pub on the same day, and I loved it.
