Wetherspoons selling off real ales at 99p/pint ahead of lockdown

Just to add to this most young people don't drink Frosty Jack's or Vodka and don't go out either unless they're a chav. It's not the 90's / 00's anymore with New Monkey rocking in the background. Pre drinks maybe but arguably it's safer than going out getting spiked etc anyway.

The only people who drink that and don't go out are addicts and are usually 40+ who I agree will never ever be better off drinking.
I used to be out drinking in the 00s, but your correct, by the way my crowd never drunk frosty jacks, however did drink vodka i have to admit, but the truth is, once the lads started getting married in there late 20s early 30s, it just wasn't the same as it was before then, so it got knocked on the head, honestly coming up to 40 its just not worth the hassle for me now, would much rather do something that doesn't involve spending a fortune on drink, and then regreating it the next day, certainly looking at the bank balance, so understand what you are saying.

No it doesn’t.
Poor and vulnerable does not mean young.
How can poor and vulnerable people be better off drinking?

They are probably going to be drinking anyway but better in a social and licensed premises rather than at home behind closed doors.

You should visit Westhoughton. We seem to get a new bar every other month!

We went Axe Throwing the other week. That was canny. I won... which was nice

The point is though, that you don't know the owner's politics.
He plastered his EVERYWHERE.
I'd give axe throwing a go and enjoy an indoor crazy gold thing we did a while back but an escape room doesn't appeal.

F****ck am new to spoons , was in on Friday as well , both days , halfway through breakfast had finished coffee and was thinking damn could have had another one , now you tell me 😳
Aye you can sit there drinking coffee all day and only have to pay once. I imagine plenty people will do it rather than putting their heating on at home.

Because problem drinking is more likely to happen in the home than a pub.
that's upto the person in question, those with addiction issues shouldn''t go near a pub of course, but, it's also those people going into pubs keeps a way of life going, maybe that way of life is not longer a concern to the young.

It was more the fact you’d rather WhatsApp your mates than see them in person.
Ah we still see each other, it was more in the sense, even 15 year ago, the only way you could really talk to your mates would be the meet so unless you lived a life on your own then you had to go to the pub or whatever. So when we do meet we'd rather actually do something. I'd definitely rather meet people than sitting on a phone though think you misread that bit.

The next generation is even worse, the TikTok, Instagram, going out and buying cocktails because it's Insta friendly bs is just weird af.

Aye it's pretty much the same for me bar I'm 10 years younger and being the early 10's rather than the 00's. Nothing worse than waking up and realising you spent £60 on nothing.

Mind tell you one thing which surprised me the other week is how many people were on the last buses, Haymarket the other week felt like rush hour at 11pm. Never seen buses so busy at that time, must've been 40+ on some of them. You'd be lucky to have double figures before Covid and we were at home not Newcastle aswell so wasn't footy punters. The whole drinking scene is massively changing imo, for the better imo, some will disagree with that though. Vertical drinking is dead imo and it's no surprise the likes of Wetherspoon's are suffering.

I know loads of young uns at work who don't drink at all. When I started going out 20ish years ago I can't think of anyone I knew my age who was teetotal.

Youngsters are also drinking less. My niece is 20 and hardly drinks at all. She would rather hang out at a pretentious coffee shop than a pub and thinks "oldies" getting drunk is sad. How have we raised a generation more boring than us?
My youngest daughter is the same, rarely drinks. Fair play to her in a way.
Had a breakfast in spoons in Darlo this morning , with coffe not beer mind . 10.00am too earlier for my palette. Maybe it’s cos am old but , even though I know the ingredients are cheap , at £5.25 inc coffee it went down great. Love Spoons me. At 10.00am it was busy with blokes like myself ( retired not pissheads ) happily having a pint cos it’s affordable.
The brekkys are topper mind.
Which ones?
Id be interested in hearing which ones too. Its My regular crawl shields.

Agreed, i think we are on the verge of a massive cultural shift to be honest, i think the days of all night on the piss are over, and its coffee houses wine bars/cocktail bars, and Activitys are coming at a rate of nots, with a lot more things to do that just sit and get pissed in a pub, bowling, crazy golf, wall climbing which looks ace, and other such things, and of course there is always the pictures, and nandos and such if you want an evening out.

how about your age group now, have some given up the booze ?

A pub in Cambridge has recently reopened offering crazy golf, shuffleboard (whatever that is) and street food stalls. It really is a new world.
