Wetherspoons selling off real ales at 99p/pint ahead of lockdown

He’ll come up with a radical idea like selling yellow sticker pints to Elsie on the buses.
Its already over £4 for a decent pint at most spoons based in and around city centres.

Hows that ‘cheap’.

As a society we have all become apathetic about having our eyes ripped out. Imo

Is the really cheap stuff not the likes of Ruddles ?

f***ing awful stuff.
The odd time I’ve been in one the selection isn’t much Kop and the better pints are cheap ish but not dirt cheap.

This.

You might get the odd cheap real ale 3% muck but a San Miguel in the massive shit tip that is Blackpool atm is nearly a fiver…

£2.10 stuff is random guest ales. Sometimes good, usually fine, sometimes shit.

I work for a pub chain, northern based and we're putting 40p on a pint. Morretti £5.30, Amstel £4.90

I'm in one of the venues at the moment and there are two customers in.

Spoons have San Miguel on for £3.29 and Leffe for £3.59.

They'll be busy.

Amstel is dross in this country. Yet another top premium lager dumbed down. Its 50p a 300ml bottle in a supermarket and i’m reluctant to buy it. Tasteless weak shite.

£4.90 is scandalous.

I think the bigger part of the problem is a large of chunk of society don't go to pubs anymore, times are changing. Most pubs are dead Sunday - Thursday and even Fridays and Saturdays they're dead until around 7pm, excluding people eating. It's no wonder prices are sky high.

If they were lower would more people not go?

Honestly, not sure tbh as it'll just attract knackers in then anyone decent wont turn up. Double edged sword.

Wetherspoons in Whitley Bay is absolutely dirt cheap during the day, everything is under £3 or thereabouts, San Miguel being £3.10, Coors £2.39 and Carling £2.39 (know it's shite but still) and it's still dead half the time.

Over five quid is too much of a psychological barrier for most working class folk

I was in Croatia and had been drinking the Croatian lagers, I got a bottle of Amstel for a change and it was bloody awful in comparison.
