So you'd be happy with attackers stood closer to the goal than defenders on set pieces like free kicks. It'd give attackers a ridiculous advantage to the point where they could dictate where the defense positions their line. It'd be ridiculous.

What about when the attacker is a mm outside of the line of 'tolerance'. You'd have the same debate about 'margins'.
Yeh I would be.

Yeh I would be.

Not sure you've thought through how much the game would be ruined by that idea. You'd have strikers getting a head start on through balls by hanging goal-side of the defenders shoulders.

Only idea better than what we currently have is to judge offsides purely on foot position and disregard all other parts of the body.

I’m agreeing with you.......I think, all I’m saying is there is no answer to the current VAR *problem* once you start measuring (regardless of who’s favour it’s in) you need accuracy to a level that is impossible to achieve.
For the record I hate VAR

I was having the same debate endlessly on another thread. I agree the system isn't perfect but it's the best we have. The problem is that most alternative ideas sound great in theory but they'd become farcical in practise. Having said that I'd be quite happy with going back to how it used to be.

Using the foot position makes sense.............but on some occasions you’d only get the VAR official microscopically measuring the foot position, as I’ve said once you start measuring minute distances there will always be arguments.

The problem of mms would remain but it'd be significantly less frequent.

Tbh it would still have this shite we have taking ages to check if someone's arm is more offside than the defenders toe. I hate it.

Imagine thinking the rules should allow forwards to stand offside for free kicks, and then remain offside when it's taken
