West Brom Forum

The elbow on Pritchard looks worse every time I see it. From the ref's perspective if he's looking at the back of both players his views obscured. All he sees is their keeper move into Pritchard and the Pritchard going down. He can't see the point of contact or the throw of the arm. Of course, if he sees it on the face on angle he's going to give a red.
I said at the time that the ref didn't see it, he was looking the other way and was obviously asking that terrible assistant if he saw anything. Obviously he didn't just imaginary, not even close, offsides!

Clubs have sussed him stop clarke you stop us
Just hope the club are drawing the situation to the powers that be - preferably with a suitable video

Boro for example came out with an obvious game plan of double marking Clarke and then taking it in turns to drag him to the ground if he managed to break free

Of course the only thing the Ref did was to send Dan Neil off when he complained about nothing being done about it

On the balance I say he got more wrong for us blatant ones too like the elbow and the offside goal, Ballard's tackle wasn't good but you have to think it was the first half refs on the fence between yellow and red often take that into account it may well have been a red in the second half. But that elbow was blatant, and it looked onside from the Southstand never mind side on how they fucked that one up I'll never know.

That was a bloody awkward kick-off time for the away fans, and credit to those fans who turned up.

Had a quick look at their forums to see what they made of the game. The overwhelming mood is that they deserved nothing from the game. Some did actually recognise they were very lucky with the offside goal, though I’m not sure how you couldn’t.

Some were aggrieved about the Ballard tackle on Maja. I think they have a point. I don’t think we’d have been able to complain too much if he’d seen a red for that.

Other than that they saw the same game as we did. 1 shot (header) on target which they scored from. There are much worse fanbases out there than West Brom, in my opinion.

Except it was never a red, any other player bar Maja would have just got straight up & carried on.

My first and last on this.

Firstly you absolutely deserved it, us missing key players in Yokuslu, Phillips & Wallace and a half-fit BTA not being able to start, helped you.

The referee and "assistants" were awful, for both teams. Ballard & Furlong were both absolute nailed on red.

Classic championship game with one team turning up, the other not.

On that showing I don't think the current top 4 will be sweating much.

Onwards and hopefully upwards.

The End. ;)

Saw loads of comments on the match thread on there saying the ref was shite today, gave us everything, and that the tackle on Maja was criminal assault.

Not one mention of the blatant fkn elbow that nearly broke Pritchards face, or the two-footed lunge that nearly snapped Clarke's ankles, or Huggins getting ragdolled to the floor, or the obvious goal Jobe scored, or the 6 yellow cards they got for constant fouling.

Deluded nobs. Glad we slapped them.
Or the post (2) and bar (1) or the denying of a clear cut penalty shout (the boy puts his leg out in front of Paddy to stop him) that came to their rescue... Mind , one shot on target (goal) should make up for their disappointment. I thought they may have had a penalty shout very late on but a good solid defensive play saw the little No7 shit off.

1976 down The Hawthorns. Thousands of us down there, went on the pitch after the baggie fans come towards our end. Chased em straight back. Pretty sure it was one of Roy Greenwood's first games

The voice of sanity prevails.
Always found the Baggies to be decent
Aye. One used to get in my old east London local, the one you n Mrs force came once. When wba were playing midweek or weekend (not on tv)he’d sit at the quiet end of the bar listening with headphones on listening to some radio commentary getting all excited by himself. Jumping up and down and dancing around in delirium occasionally……….which was the cue for someone to quip “Looks like they’ve got a corner”.
He just stopped coming in and no one knew why. Then we found out about the Albion pub down Shoreditch/Hackney/Hoxton way.

Ballard is class but for me that was a cowardly challenge on Maja and should have been red. The fact that he then went on to score the opening goal and be most peoples man of the match will have wound the WBA fans up, we would have been exactly the same. Baggies fans are fine, I remember them all staying and applauding us when crowned league champions under Peter Reid. They have always been fine whenever I have went to the Hawthorns as well.
Must have been to the Hawthorns a dozen times with many happy score lines. One of their lot nicked my scarf. Mind you that was 50 years ago.😉.

The kind of thing you don’t forget though.

Cowardly's a bit strong, wasn't two footed or over the top. Badly timed yes.

I would agree, but why does he book their player if that's all he sees? Also it was on the halfway line, definitely not their keeper! 😉
