That many on here are hyocritical moaning knackers who can never be pleased. Man utd sing al game, slated. Palace do, in a different manner, slated. Then we have our own singing end slated every week.

They have a point. Man U's away support (though hardly heard them on telly v City), has been excellent at times but for such a huge successful club who come expecting an easy win it's no big deal. Palace don't even have away support, this home thing is good when they get going but if they're great fans where were they 10 years ago, at the playoffs and will it last?Meanwhile our lot turn up week after week, year after year of struggling, but the lack of success on the pitch means we're not always that loud at home. Simple really.

People will always slate 'ultras' and singing ends, it's like the cool, snooty down the nose look at charvers and the likes. Portsmouth were outstanding at creating an atmosphere, used to enjoy their televised matches in the premier league but people use to bleat on about the bloody racket and the bells and stuff. Miserable fuckers.

LOL, still remember it driving my girlfriend mad at the time.

Such a great atmosphere last night!

they booed when VA was stretchered off

Who boos that???

And not 1 clap from either end as he was being carried off- horrible south London scum= the leagues better off without them.

Confused Italian wannabe tossers, totally lost their clubs identity and tradition within a few short years.

Everyone at that club over 25 must look and think how the hell did we let this happen.

The success line gets trotted out time and time again. How does success = singing all game and wanting to only sing, in the main anyway, original songs? If it did why do Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City not follow suit?

Funnily enough I was going to use them as an example of sky taking something on and it becoming fact.

Portsmouth never created the atmosphere that was believed by the majoirty. I had the miss fortune of going to quite a few of there games at the time.

SOL atmosphere has been flat for a good while but still on any given saturday the roar created by a tackle or important goal I never heard nearly matched at Fratton.

The enthusiasm of the fans should be generated by the performance and or actions of their team on the pitch, not some choreographed performance.
Some would say that the fans should be vocally backing the team even when the performance doesn't generate it. Our away support certainly does this (as non stop singing at saints away showed)

I am of the belief that any atmosphere is better than none, and the lads at sellhurst park certainly produce a good atmosphere.

As you would expect with double the attendances though.

Not In my opinion, they had a cramped little ground and the acostics were right. That went a long way into creating the hype and as such would be as least as effective as a sporadically placed bigger crowd.

Also no roof on the away end meant Boca Juniors wouldnt of been heard on tv.

I look at it this way:

Man utd are the ideal model. Sing all game, obsessed with being original in their songs and have kept a bit on an old school ebglish feel to their support. They get slated on here. Then you have Palace, who unlike Man utd, dont have a singing culture, so they have opted for a different way to generate an atmosphere. They get slated on here. So basically, our fans slate any other set regardless and simply cant give any credit (we have people on here saying the palace fans have mics under their seats to make them seem loud ffs ). Haway man, we hammer the mags for singing on the 'if Sammi scores. we're on the pitch' and then sing it for Altidore. We hammered the mags for singing he scores when he wants for Cisse (as it is one of the most boring and unoriginal songs ever) and then sing it for Fletcher (even though he has a much better one). It just smacks of hypcoracy.

Im not sure why people think Palace are choreographed anyway? Im not aware they have a hymn sheet which tells people what to sing and when? Or is more the bouncing and flag waving? Man uTd have a pub designated for fans to go to learn new songs. Is that a bit plastic? Where do you draw the line?

Anyway, isnt our club creating a 'singing end' not forcing things a bit? We used to have a good number of fans who would sing all game, and with many original songs to boot but that has all died off.

Difference is mate, they are our flags ;)

Heard them all game and sky wanked over them, again last night. Why would sky lie about the atmosphere if it was shite? They were quite happy to point out the mags game against Liverpool was embarrassigly quiet.

as opposed to ours, where all youd see just before kick off is a load of empty seats and pissed knackeres wandering about trying to find where their ticket is for
I hope that wasn't aimed at me, because that's certainly not what I meant. Sky obviously have cameras and boom mics to pick up the crowd noise. I reckon if they pointed those mics at our south stand then the noise generated on the broadcast would be the same as at Selhurst. I have a feeling that sky big-up the atmosphere at Selhurst by pointing their mics at the 'ultras' for the full game. I'd be surprised if the noise was that intense in all areas of the ground. And I said I wasn't there, so if I'm wrong then I'm happy to be called out on it, and I apologise.

Why would they randomly pick one set of fans to point mics at and not the other? We love Palace so lets put mics next to their singers! But we hate sunderland so keep the mics away from their singing end. Think about it.

Aye they went very very quiet and stopped waving flags after Gomez scored ;)

I have recorded the full match. I shall watch it back again but Im pretty sure as the game was restarting you could hear them singing "we support the palace". And if they did stop singing after an opposition goal that would completely blow the argument that they dont care about what is happening on the pitch cos they are plastic and manufactured ;)

Man U don't do it everywhere they go and tbh only seem to have done it at the SoL since they went 'upstairs' - they were'nt even like it the day they lost out to City and thought they were winning the league.
If we had 75k crowds at home, top players, shit loads of money and a long list of trophies, anyone who managed to get a ticket to travel a couple of hours for an easy 3 points and a piss up and didn't sing all match would get slated.

Don't know why the others don't do it, they're like the Man U of a few seasons ago.

Are we actually boasting about the odd roar when a tackle or a goal goes in? That is to be expected ffs. Proper supporters will be vocally backing the side throughout man, not just when something positive happens.

Very good post, spot on.

No. It's much less effort to just babble mindlessly.

I would go along with this if the whole of Selhurst Park or even one stand was like that, but it clearly isn't.
It's a few "Ultras" in a small corner. Sorry like.
