Well done to the BBC

Mate, you're talking shite.

First things first - if Fifa had known it was gonna be on, be it last Monday, next week, next month or whenever, then they (evidently) were going to withhold votes from us).

Secondly - it was baseless drivel at all. You're talking shit. The presenter guy, I admit, was a bit odd but his research was sound. Fifa delegates taking payments from a company that Fifa had awarded a World Cup contract to. Aye, that's completely above board, so above board that Fifa were happy to talk about it openly.....oh

it also spoke about Jack Warner selling tickets onto touts (or trying, and failing to). Once again though, that didn't happen according to you, even though Jack Warner is not currently suing the BBC, Jennings, or the Norwegian reporters who have pushed these claims.

But aye, baseless drivel. Fifa are all lovely people, don't do owt wrong. I hear Gandhi is their president :lol:

I don't see any of them facing charges either, which is amazing given the weight of the evidence Panorama alluded to perhaps, maybe having which suggested they might have done something. Perhaps.

Aye, well worth shitting on our doorstep to blow the lid off that one.

People are looking for a scapegoat. The result was bought, pure and simple. Wheels within wheels and all that.

Shouldn't stand idly by and do nothing because it's in our best interests, every person on this board has been crowing about Blatter/Platini and corruption at FIFA for years, yet now that we were in the running for something, nowt should be said? Not that it would have made the slightest bit of difference in this case.

Good post.

All the people who blames the BBC are the type who go to work everyday and lick their bosses' arse, and tell them everything they want to hear and will sell out anyone to get ahead and impress the powers that be.

In other words, crawlers.

So are you suggesting the media shouldn't report corruption if it might have a negative effect on the country?

Totally agree mate we should be applauding the BBC and they and every dirty tabloid in this country should unleash hell on the whole FIFA goverance and the process of elections and voting. Lets really get behind them and kick FIFA in the nuts.... I knew we would not get this or any other WC for that matter and I reckon neither did the bid team but the stiff upper lip prevails and we want to be seen to do things by the book and long may that continue....

Good link. That's what can happen when a major media source is funded exclusively by the state and has no-one to answer to other than the prevailing government of the day.

BBC+Panorama on World Cup Bid=Nazis

I just thought we'd lost out on hosting a sporting event in 8 years time. This is bad news.

Just been reported that Blatter reminded all delegates just before they voted of recent media reports. It is becoming clearer and clearer that the BBC programme has affected the bid very badly. So now maybe you should drop this avoidance of balme for the BBC and concentrate on whether it was worth it or not.

If they can't prove any corruption they shouldn't report on it full stop. Because that's not corruption; that's a suggestion of corruption.

In the case of the BBC, who receive a huge wedge of "TV tax" every year, justified on the sole basis that they operate in our national interest, then yes, that is exactly what I'm suggesting.

Let's not pretend that they've engaged in any history-making whistle-blowing here.

cos it may have lost us the bid and cost the economy millions?

what is the benefit that outweighs this cost?

You must be still at school if you believe that you really need to understand what is going on here to give an educated answer, the corruption is so deep in FIFA that this vote was a formality and all the noises you have been hearing about how well out bid was doing was mere soundbites from FIFA delgates whilst they were filling their pockets with the money of others.....

it depends on how you define blame.

If you use it, like a lot of the fools on here are, as a comment to castigate the BBC with and criticise, then I'd disagree.

It does seem like one of the reasons we have lost is because of the BBC and other media.

However, if that's the case - how the fuck are the BBC's the ones in the wrong, and Fifa get off scot free.

Once again, do you want the British media to only report things that are good for this country?

So hold on - you mean if Fifa knew that a show was going out tonight was going to expose them, they would have voted for us because it hadn't already gone out?

Aye, whatever :lol::lol:

They have to give Fifa the right to reply. That's how good journalism works, believe it or not.

They have known for months and months. Plenty of time to give FIFa the right of reply. And by the way your use of smilies is a bit shit......mate.

Not the leap I was trying to make like!!

Rather just pointing out that he'd picked an example which offered no support to his argument whatsoever, seeing as the BBC are funded entirely by a public they are seemingly unaccountable to.

For the record, I'm confident that Trevor McDonald and Bruce Forsyth are not planning to brainwash us and/or take over the world.

Standards have certainly slipped at the Beeb. This weeks' Panorama was weak, telling us little we didn't already know and to add to that it was rather dull. That said one cannot throw stones at FIFA and just expect to escape without a scratch. That scratch (I think) was our bid being humiliated but it made no difference to the eventual outcome as to who got the tournament. Blatter sees his role as leaving a legacy (as well as hating us) and that was always going to be best served by giving the world cup to Russia.

I got on it at evens and made £20.

Blatter should have applauded the BBC and stated his commitment to eradicating corruption from FIFA. Instead he's now publically stated that whoever's media doesn't toe the line gets nothing. Is it FIFA or the BBC that's in the wrong here?

So, you're against free press then?

report what is good for the country?

Just checking. Say hi to little adolf for me :lol:

Sensationalism in the media devalues the message it puts across. The timing was sensationalist to get ratings. I do think the exposure was needed and right but I think you are very wrong to deny that it has severly affected our bid, especially with Blatter reminding the delegates just before thye voted.
