Apparently they pulled a 15 year old girl from the water at 10 ocklock this morning after she had got into difficulties.

They had only just recently returned to look after Seaburn beach...dred to think if they had not been there?

RNLI senior lifeguard, Aaron Curle said: ‘There were some big waves at Seaburn today and, after initially thinking it was a ball in the water, we quickly swung into action to rescue the teenager.

‘She was really struggling to keep her head above water after losing her footing and being swept out. On occasions like this, our charity’s comprehensive lifeguard training really kicks in. We’re so pleased we were able to rescue the girl and bring her to safety.

Didn't all the gammons want the RNLI closed down last year because they went to some third world country to save drowning kids ?
Not sure about that marra....but amongst all the gloom at the moment still some young people doing some good stuff

They did aye. All getting radgy reading mail headlines about them funding burkinis in Africa. Whereas, of course, they were promoting water safety and training in other countries which includes providing for swimwear for those being trained. Amounts to about 1% of their revenue. So, the best thing is not to donate to our national water safetycharity. Why not let some white kids drown to make a point about helping brown people.

It's their choice not to take any government funding - they're well supported, and government funding of any size can create dependency on the government, who then pull on the strings attached, erode it, demand additional layers of bureaucracy, set stupid targets, and generally get in the way, sell bits of it off to Serco who subcontract it to a company with no boats, or just generally fuck it up or worse still, appoint Chris Grayling as Minister for Lifeboats.

I think the RNLI and its independence is a brilliant testimony for what society can do for itself.
