Well, another depressing season ahead.

But Poyet got one point more than Dick managed from the last 9 games of the previous season......did that lead to the players performing to that level subsequently? Why didn't we kick on.....it was the same owner, the same CEO and the same DOF.
That's irrelevant. New manager bounce will only get you so far if the guy is inexperienced and basically bloody clueless. Dick is a different proposition altogether. He knows what he's doing.

Its got nowt to do with how long is left in the transfer window. The posters above are correct - we shoud have the " quality" players that dick identified we needed ( as did 45,000 others ) in now or within the next week or so to enable them to bed into the team before the season starts, not last minute panic buys on 31/08 when we have played a few games !!

Can you name one club who have done the majority of their business?

Whoever we buy for the central midfield position will determine what type of season we are going to have. If the club take the cheap option and buy someone for buttons(or worse still not buy any Central midfielder) then we will struggle badly again, if they show some ambition and go out and spend big on a quality attacking centre midfielder then we might have a good season. Unfortunately I have zero confidence in the club buying a top class CM.

One player isn't going to make that much difference.

The board is split between the realistic fuckers and the deluded fuckers right now. The realistic fuckers know we're probably fucked, the deluded fuckers think there's a chance we might not be fucked. I'm not really sure which fucker I am at the moment.

That's because you change your mind every 24 seconds iirc marra

I guess people are frustrated because it's blatantly obvious where the teams problems lie and it is strange not to deal with them ASAP. I mean it's been half a decade or longer since we had a decent creative CM...actually yeah, longer.

It's often frustrating but never depressing. When you read through those poor folk on the SMB about their struggles it's never the poor form of the team. Weird that. Suppose the mutual anger and very occasional joy mitigate depression. Just as f***ing well or none of us would ever get out from under the blankets

We drew lots of games last season, a quality centre midfielder who is going to get up and support the frontman or shock horror even chip in with a few goals/assists would have made a big difference to us, it's a fine line between drawing and winning games.

Would have to go back to Hutchinson or Reyna to find last time we had a good central midfielder, I'd keep our current strikers if it meant spending big on a top quality centre midfielder.

As an outsider I think you will really struggle and you better hope that the promoted clubs don't make a fist of it. The established clubs with potential to go down IMO are:

Newcastle
Leicester
Aston Villa
West Brom
Sunderland

Newcastle now have a full time manager and will make about four very good signings and should be fine. You can't rule out last year's form though and the team that stayed up was abysmal.
Leicester need to get a good new manager in and if they do they should be fine. They're spending a lot of money and were the form team in the PL last nine games.
Aston Villa looked like a mid table team under Sherwood and have made some good buys.
West Brom will be there or thereabouts for sure.
Sunderland could actually regress, they have a lot of players in their thirties and could age overnight. They could lose AJ and be forced to keep Alvarez. There transfer business has been totally uninspiring and there's every chance it won't improve the first XI.

I think it will be three from five that go with Sunderland. West Brom and the three promoted clubs likely to fill the relegation spots.
I don't think you understand, pulis guarantees you survival. Anyway What about West Ham? Europa league could fuck them up. I don't see how villa will be a mid table team either with there squad pretty poor, especially when Benteke goes, and Sherwood in charge, who is massively overhyped. Obviously Leicester won't finish like they did but then they won't have a long winless run either so I'd say having a season more like hull last season but hard to predict, you have a championship squad so your top 10, 50 points or whatever prediction is rightly laughed at. I don't think you make too many bad points on the whole it's just some of your statements are outrageous like 'established sides'. I agree on Sunderland, with current squad, we will be around 15-17th like villa and you

Not sure why anyone would expect any different at this stage.

We've been relegation fodder for the last three years at least (and certainly very lucky the last 2 years to stay up) - not sure what has changed to make me think otherwise. Anyone watching the team last year knows that we were badly managed but we also had major major gaps in our team - all of which still remain. Until that changes we surely can't expect much different?

It could all change with a couple of signings of course - but can only judge on what we have at the moment rather than using the old crystal ball to predict who we will sign.

Unless was he was some kind of unbelievable coup, he wouldn't have the kind of impact you're suggesting.

We crave a don Hutchison type of player imo.Attacking midfielder who scores plenty of goals .

Problem is so does everyone else.
