Welbeck - the problem with loan signings.

Some great recent performances from Welbeck. Looks a star in the making and has been our best player since second half against Spurs. Bur therein lies the problem - hes not our player.

Theres no way SAF will let him come here. Meaning our position in the league is, to some degree, false. In the summer, Bruce is going to have to look to replace Welbeck and that will be a job in itself. All we will have gained is a short term filip to the club at the expense of potentially bedding in someone for the long term.

And if we do get to make a permanent deal, his value is going up about £1m a week at the minute.:-(

If these loan signings help us move higher up the table, possibly even into Europe then we would be able to attract quality players.

Aye but a good manager has plans and knows this and will have options like

You try to get the best out of a player for as long as you can, then bring someone else in better, hopefully like

To an extent all players are temporary.

Peiner was Everton's best player, last night, but he'll leave on a free at the end of the season. Moyes will have to replace him and may spend money on another 'chance' like Beckford.

We paid £5 million for Cana who decided, after a period similar to Welbeck's loan, that he didn't want to be here ........... just modern football I'm afraid. Fortunately we were able to recover our outlay.

I suppose it is about slowly and consistently raising the clubs profile and reputation allowing us to slowly build a better squad in the long term. Case in point - without the loan signing of Johnny Evans, I very much doubt we'd have been a Premiership club after that first season and have been in the position to attract the quality we now have.

I have no problem bringing on the likes of Evans and Welbeck whatsoever. And who is to say if we offered them £10m in the summer they wouldn't do business? It's not necessarily SAF's call.

loan signings should hopefully be a win/win situation for both clubs. this seems to be what is happening with welbeck

How is it a problem? Everyone has loan signings these days. If you don't use the system then you are not maximising your options. I would expect a couple of loan dealings every summer.

Whatever it takes to prevent us becoming the next Newcastle or Portsmouth is fine by me .......... spending money you don't have, and risking the future of the club, is fare less welcome than borrowing a few decent players.

For the first time in 40 years I actually trust the club and that alone makes it very easy to be a Sunderland fan at the moment.

the other thing is it hopefully raises our profile amongst other players..wellbeck will go away with hopefully some decent memories from his time here.

Well put mate.

We are on course to have 3 players hit double figures and still they twist.

We have Fraizer Campbell to come back.

^^^^ This ^^^^
Also, Welbeck might not want to go back to sit on the bench/play in the reserves and if the offer from Sunderland is substantial (10m), who is to say Utd wouldn't snap our hands off? They have to balance the books like every other club.

Welbeck at Sunderland - Will play some part (If not 90 minutes) every week and is becoming a fans favourite.

Welbeck at Man U - Will make the bench occasionally getting 10 minutes here and there, will play a few cup games and be unrecognised by the majority of fans.

I know which I would prefer

^ that. In a nutshell.

I don't get what all the fuss is about. If a player comes in and does the business to lift this CLUB higher in the league then whats the problem?

The club comes first. Not the players.

Bruce will know whats coming, do people on here think he just suddenly realises that Welbeck isn't our player on the last day of his loan and panic?!?!

For all we know, Welbeck could actually be sold. Do you think SAF wanted to sell Ronaldo? Beckham went to help fund the transfer for a better player (Ronaldo). SAF isn't daft and knows clubs come before individual players.

We may also get him back on loan again, if SAF doesn't need him for Man Utd and he wouldn't get games.
