We missed Altidore today

Can everyone that slates Altidore please explain why no striker that's played in the system we have all year has looked like scoring regularly when playing up front alone? I know Poyet is immune from criticism by some and this isn't even a criticism really, but we simply do not create chances for our centre forward.

The only decent forward we have at the moment is borini, gus might even go with one upfront from now on

The thing is Borini has been playing well on the left, I just can't see Giacc putting in the shift defensively Borini does, and we really need our LW to get back and help Alonso who's suspect defensively. Which leaves the only options as Colback out there, we saw in the final how ineffective he was going forward. Mavrias who's untested at this level or Larsson on the right with Johnson moving out to the left.

Just wait til he sees a compact defense. His goal was brilliant, but Palace isn't going to play the same high line as City. Our CMs need to do a better job of getting forward instead of leaving the centre forward completely isolated.

Imo we have to play our only inform front man through the middle not sure if its worth playing either fletcher or altidore up beside him, saturdays game is massive and a win is needed, not sure if I would go with two up top of pack the midfield as palace are a very physical team.pleased I am not a manager lol[DOUBLEPOST=1394558724][/DOUBLEPOST]

We need a strong midfield on saturday, very physical are palace, gus might pack the midfield and play just one upfront, maybes bring on another forward in the second half if things are not working out

I wouldn't mind seeing 4-4-2 tbh

Mannone
Bardsley O'Shea Brown Alonso
Larsson Ki Bridcutt Johnson
Altidore Borini
In the hope that if defenders are concerned about Altidores presence it should allow Borini to have a bit more space. I know 442 isn't the long term answer but we just need points on the board

Doesnt look too bad apart from Larsson,he offers the team nothing, would rather play catts or gardener to him

Altidore and Fletcher have done absolutely fuck all to help themselves to be fair, their movement is so static and both offer very little in terms of workrate. Borini has played up front once by himself in the final and his performance that day was a lot better than anything either Altidore or Fletcher have served up this season.

The system definitely has it's flaws but I don't think that is the cause of them 2 being so desperately poor all season as they have been.

altidore is shit

S H I T

for fucks sake why are we still discussing the waste of a shirt.
its hilarious the way Altodire supporters try to change the team shape and personel to suit Altodire. We could play 1 1 8 to support him and lose 32- 24 but the useless prick still would not be able to control a ball or score a goal

2 goals in 50+ league games. Defender you might say? no that is the record of a f***ing striker. Phil Bardsley has a better strike rate. I'd honestly rather play him up front.

its unbelieveable how many people on here want him to start, i know most are yanks but some actual sunderland supporters seem to favour him aswell
Obviously not been around very long to suffer some of the very very bad strikers we have had but Altodire will go down in Sunderland History as the worst by a very long way.

St Joes, if Jozy gets a start Saturday vs Palace and effectively holds the ball up, creating space and opportunities for teammates - yet doesn't score - what will your assessment be?

I predict that most here will say that Scocco or someone else should get his minutes if we win - as Jozy "isn't good enough" - and if Sunderland lose, that he's "shite."
What you just don't seem to realise is that most Sunderland fans are fair (there are 100,000's, only about 100 post on here). If Jozy terrorises the opposition, batters them senseless and lays the ball to others for the goals that secure a victory, you'll see the love. However he needs to do shed loads more than he's been doing to get that response.

Gotta say tho' your blind faith in him and overt hatred of Sunderland and the fans does you no credit.

I think the nearest comparison is Rade Prica who also had a dreadful first touch but he was sussed after six games, still scored as many Altodire though. He was a journeyman through Scandinavian Soccer and ended up at Macabi Tel Aviv. In these smaller leagues he was a 1 in 2 striker, and he had a go in the Bundesliga first and second division where he did poorly. It is obvious form his abysmal displays for Sunderland that the gap in quality is wider then the Pacific Ocean. Jozy is simply a very bad footballer by PL standard and even with his showing against Kidderminster by English League standard and should be shipped back to Holland at the first opportunity.

:lol: - do OPTA know about this one? Perhaps there should be a platinum boot for it - fuck goals - who has 'looked' like scoring most!!:lol:
