We missed Altidore today

Fletcher is completely fucked though. People have had a go at him for not trying but the simple fact of the matter is that he's injured, and he should have had surgery months ago. He might have looked a player in the past but in the past he had two functioning lower limbs.

You're not wrong mate but if they're on the pitch they get judged.

With him, 17 goals for, 8 goals against in 7 wins and 1 loss.
Without him, 2 goals for, 6 goals against in 1 win and 2 losses.

He's the best centre foward in the squad. Play Borini underneath him or on the left, but the squad is better with him than without.

WRONG, he's the worst striker out of the main 3 of Altidore/Fletcher/Borini

I didn't know this but using that website you linked to, the more and more I saw stats that just showed how shit Altidore is. So here's some favourable Altidore stats for you to look at just like the ones you conveniently listed earlier in this thread ;)

it's the Premier League games he's started along with Fletcher and Borini stats (not that it matters that much, I didn't include the Hull game). The actual game results listed are the ones Altidore's has started. For all 3 players, a simple copy & paste and sort using Excel did all the work for me. You can see Fletcher and Borini's stats also but not the games

additional stats:

Altidore's goals hasve won us 0 points, Fletcher and Borini have got us points with their goals

Altidore hasn't scored when as a sub as he's only got one goal overall this season and scored that starting against Chelsea (red in pic)

with Altidore coming on as a sub, a games result hasn't changed to gain points as we were already winning against Man City, Everton & Fulham and lost the rest. Fletcher came on to get a point away at Cardiff and Borini to get 3 at home to the Mags

with Altidore's points per game we'd get 31.2 points over the season if you pro rata his points per game, relegation yet Fletcher and Borini would get 41 & 46 points respectively so safe from relegation

SAFC only won once in the first 13 games Altidore started this season

factor in Fletcher has been injured and unfit then that's no excuse for Altidore or his fans

I'll leave it at that as I think I've shot you right down to shit and you've very few places to hide now mate ;). It's time for the Altidorettes to just accept he's shite for SAFC and the Premiership but canny for the USA [DOUBLEPOST=1394465785][/DOUBLEPOST]p.s. SAFC only won once in the first 13 games Altidore started this season, thanks to Borini!

While you make a strong point, I think the arguments are really (a) whether Borini should be playing up front or on the wing, given that we don't really have any decent alternative out there either, and (b) if he's on the wing, which of our two currently useless forwards (three? Scocco?) should go up front. It's hard to take anyone seriously now who's defending Altidore over Borini except by saying that Borini should be on the wing.

maybe cos he's started more games than he's missed,so totally irrelevant point
It could be totally irrelevant. I am just pointing out that the team was staggeringly more successful with him up top in the cups because most go on and on about how he offers nothing.[DOUBLEPOST=1394468390][/DOUBLEPOST]
I think most would be with Giac/Scoco... Fletch is still the better footballer than Altidore though, I'm pleased Poyet seems to have binned Dozy.
Amazing how often Fletcher evades criticism on here.

I think you are exactly right. Borini playing is a given. Putting him in one position is going to leave a hole in the other than isn't going to be filled well. Pointing out that replacing him with a player who is crap isn't helpful, because all of our players, besides Borini, for the left wing or up top are crap. The question is which of our crappy options is best for the team. We don't have a goal scorer, besides Borini. If memory serves we only seen Borini up top by himself once, and that was based on having a counter attacking strategy, which we normally don't use. How would Borini work up top with our normal set-up? Haven't been impressed with Giac, though he's had some good moments. Therefore, I still think Borini on the left with Altidore up top is the best option.

We've seen Fletcher play well for us before. Ive seen Jozy play well about twice. He cant hack it and the sooner he finds his level the better

Thats fine. When was the last time we played well because it hasn't been this year?

Aside from nicking a goal against Cardiff he hasnt, which worryingly still puts him ahead of Jozy. The other alternative of Borini up top dosent appeal to me because that opens the door to Giac...

I think Fletcher has played better when he has played with Altidore (nicking a goal against Cardiff and mags), but I don't he has been very good as a lone striker. Often times he make the team look disjointed and less fluid.

Fletcher > Altidore every day of the week
Maybe except a Saturday or a Sunday or if we play on a Tuesday. Fletcher did alright against Man U though so I'll give him Wednesday.[DOUBLEPOST=1394479678][/DOUBLEPOST]

You must have a great memory. We've seen Michael Bridges have good games for us but I wouldn't want to get him from the Newcastle Jets.[DOUBLEPOST=1394479931][/DOUBLEPOST]

This, he's never looked like scoring regularly as a lone striker this season, none of our team has. Yes Borini got one in the final but even then we played differently to how we have the rest of the season. It's amazing how in this day and age will all the analysis that's done on football that in the main people can go 'Aye well he haznt scored many so he iz shit'. When ignoring the glaringly obvious that no striker looks like scoring regularly when he plays up top alone for us. We simply don't create chances as for the striker our main chances come from the two wide man cutting in.

Add in we play with 3 defensive midfielders and none of them are willing to get forward.
