We don't need to sign any players in January

We win two on the bounce and we have a good squad capable of staying up?

Two weeks ago we were certs for the drop. We are a really poor team that clearly needs quality adding in every area of the pitch.
Its alright, he'll have a thread up tomorrow saying we need 6 players or we're down.

We need a centre back, I would be surprised if we sign two. No chance we will have 6 in the squad. As for centre mid it might take one of Larson, Gomez or Rodwell to go first.
i would say you need 5 centre halfs to cover 3 positions but if we got just one more then you have to include Brown as 5th choice. The 5th choice centre half is likely to be someone who is required to come in and play one game and then drop out which is what we did with Brown at Everton. How did that work out for us ?

Worth remembering we have the very highly rated Beadling due back fairly soon (iirc). One centre half should be sufficient. Plus id back Brown to do a better job if called upon for the odd game again. It would take an injury crisis of biblical proportions to ever see the Everton back 3 together again once we get that one more decent centre half

imho.

Good enough squad as it is. Maybe an extra CB would be handy, but we're good enough to survive with this squad. I don't think Borini or Lens have settled just yet, and I reckon AJ has a few outstanding performances in his locker still. Plenty to come from a few of these lads. As long as we stay injury-free then I think we'll be alright.

Anyone disagree and think we need to splash the cash?

As usual we're in a bad situation to attract new players ..as Sam said the other day , it'll be loan to buy deals that work best for us but that's going to restrict the number of players we can go for

We need CB and LB cover.

We have the one option if JoS gets injured:
Wes Brown (and that didn't look good v Everton did it?)

We have one option if PvA gets injured:
Billy Jones or Yedlin playimg on their wrong side.

We have a Prem loan slot free if we can find a good young player who can't get a game for one of the top 6 teams, but I'm not up for prioritising trying to find and buy the (mythical) midfield 'playmaker' in the January window. We have plenty of decent enough players to try to use in that role if we have to:

Assuming a top pair of Fletcher/Defoe and a defensive midfield of Catts/Mvilla, we have the following options already for the last outfield starting slot:
Seb, Gomez, Toivenen, AJ, Lens, Watmore, Borini (I don't think Bridcutt/Buckley/Mavrias are realistic options, but they are on the books too).

I think we may well turn out to be a lot stronger than some of us imagined. When you consider we'd often rely solely on Johnson or Borini in the past seasons, it's refreshing to think we have Lens or Watmore there now to bolster our squad and hopefully give us more consistency over all. Imagine for a second we started with Borini and Johnson and then unleashed Watmore and Lens on the 60th minute, that's a lot for any defence to contend with to be honest. As I said, we could be a lot stronger than we realise.

Defences seemed to cope with them OK until the last 2 games

We need to strengthen - no doubt about that at all. We're only 2 points from the drop currently and we've got a hell of a run of games coming up which could well leave us in the drop zone come January. The good news is those 2 wins have got us back right in the mix and justify spending money in January in order to secure PL status. That of course assumes one thing - and it's a huge thing as far as we are concerned - that we can actually spend the money well and wisely.

To survive in this league you should Always be looking to improve your squad. Buy Buy Buy

We're one injury away from playing Wes Brown. We need 2 centre backs and another midfielder. Potentially another striker as well.
Wes Brown needs his contract paying up.
At his age and with the injuries he has sustained there is no way he can be risked at this level

imho.

 You really are an utter fuckwit.

I think the defence is my major worry. If we have an injury we are down to Brown coming back in and thats a frightening thought.

Get a loanee in till the end of the season - stay up and then re-build with BSA for next season and beyond!!

I disagree. Because ...

* You are right to describe AJ' s outstanding performances as "few".
* Why should we be the only club to stay injury free?

Besides, planning to be "alright" guarantees that we won't b e. Planning to do well makes it far more likely that we will be alright.

We need to dispense with Danny Graham, or else acknowledge that he is not a striker and find another use for his often valuable and enthusiastic contribution to the team effort. If it is the former we will need another striker, either from the Under-21 gang or on loan.

We are weak in creative midfield, or we need to buy a rocket to attach to Gomez and we are really very much in need of at least one centre back, maybe two.

Our full back situation is risky. Jones looks as he is now delivering consistency where he gave us glimpses of quality before. I have been impressed with his recent performances, but who would stand in for him? Yedlin cannot stand in for him AND for PVA. As for PVA himself - he is simply not a full back so Yedlin may/should replace him as a regular. That leaves Van Aanholt to cover for Jones and Yedlin ... and a role to be found for PVA. But please not as a full back, my nerves cannot stand it.

I have not mentioned Adam Matthews, I know nothing of him. Maybe he is a superstar!

I agree very much with you about Lens and Borini, I am somewhat surprised about Borini struggling to settle (he needs games), but I think we will see much more from Lens in the very near future.

Our injury prone backs definitely need cover that is a priority, the rest of the Team im ok with unless someone quality becomes available?
