Matthews has improved immeasurably, if this is down to the coaching staff then long may they continue the good work.
They've built a team in a matter of months and have basically worked wonders.
I think many are being a bit unfair to Duncan, because up until yesterday, we'd only seen him play in a half-arsed team full of deadwood who couldn't support him for toffee.
Now things are different and he's only going to add to our attacking threat; going to be interesting!

I just post what I think.

I think Pickford looked an outstanding talent from a young age and I was calling for his inclusion in our side much earlier than most and I was challenged by some saying we shouldn’t chuck him into a struggling top flight side. I thought he was good enough and confident enough to deal with it. I still think he has potential to be one of the best in the world.

I thought Henderson was full of talent but always looked like he was playing within himself or was reluctant to really grab a game (still think that to an extent). He has developed very well since he departed.

I thought Colback had the makings of a competent top flight player initially. He looked tidy, he was tough and was handy in a number of positions. I was wrong.

I still don’t think Honeyman or Gooch have the ability to be good players at a level above where we are now. They are competent and decent respectively at this level but that’s as far as I think they’ll go. I may be wrong about being decent at the level above.

I think Watmore will be excellent in this division. I think he’ll do well in the championship. I don’t think he will ever be a good top flight player.

I think Mumba and Maja have a lot of the raw ingredients to have successful careers at a higher level than this. Hard to really judge just how far they’ll go at this stage given their age.

Whether they’re local, from outside of the region, foreign or from the moon is irrelevant IMO. There’s no bias either to or against our academy players from me.
Fair enough. It’s a reasonable view reasonably put.
I disagree on Watmore but to be fair Given his unfortunate setbacks he does have a lot to prove.

A fully fit Duncan Watmore featuring regularly in a team that's playing well and winning games will do wonders for his confidence. In turn this will allow him to show much more of what we've seen flashes of in the past couple of seasons. He has the attributes to be a game changer for us.
Exactly, all the negative sods have buggered off and seeing all the lads celebrating with him last night, shows how highly he is thought of

Bring it on, safc are only getting stronger

I think he's got a fair bit in his locker, will only get better with confidence. And yes he seems like a very nice lad with a great attitude too, he deserves some success on the pitch.

Agree, but I think it’s also down to having a run of games and in a settled defence. It’s injuries as much as the boss’ selection that have hindered this in the past.

vaughan was scoring for everton at the age maja is scoring in league one..younger in fact..but imjuries ravaged hhim..vaugahmn has also had good championship seasons in his career..maja hasnt...at this point in time..vaughan has done far more in football than maja..
Not at all yes was promising but 9 goals in seven years at Everton never actually did much now injuries did not help agreed but more promise always then delivering. He has had a couple of spells where he did ok but bury was only time he scored regularly . Maja for a 19 year old with little first team experience has been excellent and his finishing is top drawer.

Seems to me people love to knock some of our players and put them down rather then realise the talent that they have and back them. The lad is 19! How many 19 year old strikers are scoring like he is throughout the top 4 leagues ?

It’s down to a very good player lacking in confidence playing in the third division . He’s a level above it

He offers something very different to Maja and Wyke so for that reason he’s an asset to the team.

He’s quick and direct but he needs to get his head up.

People whoa are saying he has no end product are judging him as Watmore the winger. He’s not a winger he’s a natural finisher, although he’ll be very disappointed with his effort last night that only ended up in the net through a lucky rebound.
He’s not a natural finisher . It’s one of his downsides . Not a great striker of the ball . He’s extremely quick and lively but natural finishers don’t have his goal record

He'll hammer teams that overcommit like Barnsley on the counter attack.
Ross altered the team instructions to use the pace of him and Sinclair.
We still had the slow build up in triangles from the back through the midfield but then they had clearly been told to look for forward runners any chance they had.
Just a glimpse into how JR will add another facet onto the Sunderland way of playing once he has genuine pace up front.

I would argue that's because he's been played on the wing almost exclusively at first team level.

He was scoring for fun before he made it to the first team when he was being played as a striker in the under 23's.

Natural finisher :lol::lol::lol:

3 in 54 league games

If he could finish he wouldn't be on the wing.
