Some players protect themselves by avoiding chasing 'lost causes', poor passes and 50/50 balls.

Watmore doesn't have that in him, I've seen him nick balls he has no right to win.

When it goes wrong he looks ungainly, perhaps he'd be better giving up in some opinions.

No he’s not and never will be. People need to realise he’s not very good.
It's not about being better, it's about being very different to them. Every player can be ineffective, and if someone like McGeady is not able to affect a game, chances are some speed and directness will cause problems that McGeady can not. And vice-versa of course.

There's no-one will sign Watmore in Jan - he's only played 60 mins of reserve team football in a year after a serious injury and before that only managed 4 first team games after a serious injury.

Is he ? Must admit I wasn't aware of that . Still don't believe he will listen to Marco . Would you ?:D

Aye Quantum Sports or sumat - if Gabbiadini did say that he should be pulled up by the club - mind he might need the money as Watmore is his biggest asset.

Maja has far more talent then Vaughan ever had. Only 19 and will improve year on year and especially when he playing regularly for us. Watmore has shown enough when he is fit to show he will be a real threat for us in this league and hopefully when we get promoted
Tbf to Vaughan he was very highly rated when he broke into Everton's team, became youngest prem league scorer but was greatly hampered by a series of bad injuries.

Maja certainly has potential though and hopefully we'll get to see him develop with us. He's had a great season so far. Exceeded all expectations.

And a game he did pretty well in! Could have had more of an impact if the midfield fed him quicker, was showing with some lovely runs and movement but was too often ignored. Still 7/10
Whilst I agree with your overall point I quite like that we mixed it up and didn’t look to hit him straight away every time. It’ll stretch teams and make us very hard to play against. The danger when he’s there is to try and force it and go very direct which could make us a bit one dimensional and easy to play against.

His movement was excellent though and you’re right there were a few obvious occasions when he should have been played in but wasn’t.

He showed he hasn't lost his pace and ability to run with the ball and if the likes of Sinclair hadn't been so selfish and wastefull of opportunities to play him in this would have been a different thread.

He may suddenly develop an interest in all things Sunderland and attend games now that Watmore is back in so he can talk up his asset.

It has to be said there are some strong opinions 'on both sides' but it's a debate and not a row ...

.... this forum is excellent at times.

Bang average? What the fucketty fuck is this crap? This is the lad that had some very good games at premier league and under 21 level a few seasons ago. This is 2 tiers down, he ought to be a great asset if anywhere near his best. He'll be the best ball carrier in this league by several country miles.

It seems strange folk seem to have forgotten he was one of our better players in his last season in the prem. When he played in the championship, he looked the best player on the pitch.

I like Gooch & Maguire, and I'm glad Mcgeady is finding his form but comparing them to the player Watmore was, is doing the lad a disservice.

The length of time he's been out he'll probably play well initially and then dip once the first few games are over. I suspect we won't see the very best of him until left season (hopefully) in the championship.

It's fantastic that it seem he's lost none of his pace which at any level is an asset but in League 1 is a real boost especially when our side seems to lack a player who can take us up the pitch quickly, particular away from home.

As others have said if his decision making was better he'd probably be already playing at a higher level. What is important to remember is that he's still a relatively young player and has time to develop. Fingers crossed he can remain injury free and do just that under Ross at Sunderland.

Did well to get two shots off at the keeper - one down the left when he turned their centre half and left him for dead, and another down the right where two men where on him and he still got he shot away. The first, he's clean through and should do better in my opinion. As it happens though, the keeper parries, it hits another lad, and goes in anyway. That's the standard we're up against. The other attempt, not sure it really tested the keeper but I thought he did well getting the shot away as it was. Hard to tell from the angle whether he could have done better or not.

Other than that, ran into trouble a few times with the ball, easily dealt with, and played a couple of bad balls that didn't come off. Otherwise pretty quiet.

Won us the game at Bournemouth, excellent player in a team that matches his effort .... which we did that day.

Perhaps....we give the lad a chance to prove himself? He looked good in patches in the top flight but never really had a run of games. His championship season was blighted by injury and now he makes his comeback in league 1.

As someone said we aren’t going to get a better replacement for what we can afford so let’s just see what he can do.

We just love to write a player off on here and it boils my piss when it’s clear as day that they haven’t had a decent opportunity.

We have a plethora of talent in the attacking third with Watmore, Maja, Gooch, McGeady, Maguire. Not many league one sides can boast that level of attacking threat.
I know its class

He has missed a lot of 'game development' time through injury and being in calamitous sides where he became ' the last hope'. I hope he can revive his career and build on his early impact and great promise. Helps he has such a good attitude

Ross did make the point the other day that whilst he offers us something different the rest of the team have got to “learn” to play to his strengths and that will take time
