Watmore MOM

Really love the lad like. Hope he continues the way he's going as he looks a fantastic prospect.

Worth remembering this is the first year he has really been able to commit 100% to football as he was doing his degree previously. Look at the progress he has made in that time.

He won't have been tapped up by any PL club.

Unfortunately it's plain to see he's not got it at PL level. At his age (going on 22) he should have shown more. He hasn't even been able to command a squad place until recently and hasn't looked anything than Championship fodder

Sometimes people are just late starters, either physically, mentally/confidence etc.

Who is to say that at 22 he's equivalent to others at 19 but at 27 he might flourish into a very good footballer?

First touch is ok when receiving the ball and strikes it well. Better crosser and isn't dead on his right side. Watmore can't kick with his left foot and struggled to receive

why the patronising crap?
Maybe the fact that he hasn't concentrated fully is the reason why he hasn't technically got everything he needs . At any professional level you have to absolutely respect and improve daily or you don't get what you want. I actually do know that .
He is a bright rounded seemingly very nice young man who should be admired greatly for his achiemements in life . I just don't think he is goodenough to play in the Premier League and on of that I have an opinion because he plays for Sunderland and I care about that

Well if you spout patronising cr8p don't whine if you get it back, marra. You knew exactly what I meant by part-time and still went all smart-arse on use of the term.
No-one can pull off a first class degree from decent Unis in a serious subject and have another 'job' and concentrate fully on that other job.
We're used to seeing glacial or no progress in our younguns - look at Whickham.
Watmore is smarter with a much better work ethic than Wickham. He is also able to give 100% to football for the first time.
I think we have a much better chance of seeing him rapidly progress now than the average 21 year old who has often burnt themselves out out if they haven't got into the first team by then...will he make it in the Prem? Well the way we are going at the moment he might get a very good run in the Champo with us next season and he can worry about the Prem later....

No I didn't. Because there is a difference . He was still training full time. You have no idea how hard Wickham works . Judge Watmore's work ethic when he has delivered consistently at first team level and played 100 + games . The degree isn't relevant

I'm still unsure if he is good enough for the PL, keep giving him substitute appearances for him to get a feel of the team and the league and if he improves give him a try in the starting XI.

Most of our team isn't good enough for the fuckinh Premier League mate. At least he adds enthusiasm, pity so e of our senior players do t.

This is what makes me angry, fuck politeness, your opinion means fuck all yet you continue to assert that he won't be a Premier League player.

Can somebody contact the club and let them know as I would hate for us to waste money on a players development if he will just end up at lower league level.

He is dead on his left side???? Seriously what does that even mean. Have your opinion on his ability, suggest he needs improving in certain areas (although I'm sure the club is working on the fact he only has a right hand side to his body) but your judgement is neither helpful or right so why keep flogging it. I just can't grasp that sort of attitude.

Give up Travis don't you realise you are arguing with the Special One:)

And you have no idea how mentally and physically exhausted Watmore would have been studying for that degree every night on top of a full training schedule and yet you still claim it's irrelevant to whether he can progress faster now.

Never mind - you are right and I am wrong - congrats - you win the internet.

Got his head screwed on anyway. Nice to see a footballer with a level of intelligence and common sense. Will sign a new deal soon enough. Hopefully he continues with his development. As a team, we do need to keep the ball better though, otherwise players like Watmore look lost and get incorrectly labelled as shite.

Good article before fella. It gets to the nub of it for me. The big thing that the techniquophiles on here fail to acknowledge is that he positively impacts games with real regularity. He's not all rabonas and rainbows and his technique isn't pretty but he is certainly effective. And right now give me that over stepovers every single time

Yes mate, I agree. I thought it would strike with a few posters on here.

Agree with your sentiments too.

Absolutely nailed it. So many of our problems, the ones we moan about stem from our quite frankly pathetic retention of the ball. Defence getting pelters this season, if we kept the ball for any length of time it eases the pressure on the back four. Lens gets stick because he doesn't track back, if we kept the ball he wouldn't have to be running back all the time. By far the best half of football we've played was first half against west ham. We kept the ball really well then.
