Wass

Meaning 'big'. Is this just a Sunderland thing as opposed to a northeast thing?

I've just used wass in a sentence while conversing with someone from Chester Le Street and they haven't a clue what's going on.

Probably because people from Chester Le Street generally haven't a clue what's going on too.

Am I reading it wrong or something, I've never heard that before and I've lived in Sunderland nearly all my life.
