Was it a penalty?

Sterling is basically running with his head a yard infront of his body. Then throws himself. Football os a contact sport. Never a foul.
Just because it’s a contact sport doesn’t mean you can just barge people over. It was a soft pen for me and would have been annoyed if against us but he clearly stops him from going past him.

Yep, tired, wreckless challenges.
They were wilting from about the 70/75 minute imo...Yet even at the end of extra time we still looked fresh as a daisy.
It was soft but if we're going to talk about diving to win free hits at goal then we'd need to start with Christensen's dive for the free kick Denmark scored from.
Wait until Sunday mate, you will think the Olympics diving has already begun.

I don't think it was a pen but I also don't think Sterling dove, he lost his balance. Only on his way down was he first touched imo.
Right leg gets a slight clip and he adjusts it to rest his balance as he’s doing that he gets the nudge on his hip and goes down. It’s a pen, I don’t understand why there’s so much debate

That's it debate finished, that's a foul
I've watched it a few times and its quite clear to me that sterling was diving for contact and not the other way around. It was done very cleverly and with every intention off cheating and on style points was up there with the best cheats. It was only missing the theatrical steven taylor flourish at the end to make it embarrassingly obvious it was a dive.

The VAR didn't overturn the decision because contact was made and in that grey area it went with the refs decision, flawed though it was.

Is there a grey area about contact on the last man on the ball in the penalty area?
