Was Dariusz Kubicki any good?

Good for his time and the level he was playing at. Would be not up to premier league standard imo.

Top 3 right backs in my supporting lifetime:

Makin
Bardsley
Kubicki

This post does not make me happy by the way but its the truth nonetheless.

Always thought Makin was a terribly limited footballer. Defending was his strength, going forward he was like Bardsley.

I didn't think much of him but changed my mind with his excellent performance in the play off final, not sure how you can say limited, he was a solid defender which for me is the priority as a fullback and was very comfortable with both feet.

When managers start to think a bit instead of following everyone else, the bombing forward of fullbacks is an area to exploit, sadly they haven't caught on to it yet, they think far too much of trying to stop the opposition rather than grab them by the balls.

Well he was consistent. He was unfairly dropped by Reidy just as he was to break the concecutive appearance record for the club.
reidy done it on purpose , says he didn't know but he must have , darius was a fans favourite and reid had a thing about dropping or not starting fans favourites , his petty jealousy was one of the things that turned the fans against him , Darrius probably refused to join Mr reids agent allegedly

Excellent player - it is one of the eternal mysteries of the universe how he was dropped for Gareth Hall - a player who would make any short list for worst Sunderland Player.

No mystery mate...Reid was a complete kernt, it is that simple. A factor I raised when people on here we're advocating bringing him back after PDC

When I first read the OP, I though "best", no way.

But thinking about it, he can't be far off. Makin was very over-rated as a player due to the team he was in. Daruisz was probably a lower level Premier League player when he was with us.

PS I just looked him up, I can't believe he was only at the club for 3 years, seems like it would be way longer.

 this from hes wiki page

Kubicki is now a coach of Polish second division team Lechia Gdańsk. In October 2007, Kubicki was arrested by the police due to a bribery scandal involving the sale of one of the Warsaw sport centers. Due to this scandal, Kubicki has been suspended as coach of Lechia Gdańsk.

anyone know if hes back in management yet ?

I think that bit is out of date. If you look at Teams Managed on his Wiki page he is managing in Siberia

Edit - I think that's out of date too if you look at the Siberian team's website - http://www.fc-sibir.ru/info/club/coachs

Was a quality player for us at the time, sure hes been back over a few times something to do with the University?
he was doing his degree at sunderland uni while i was there....

i thought he was a decent player, at a time when the squad was light on talent. he'd not make it into the current squad imho... but he was a very good championship player. honest and hardworking...

Steady away player, part of the team transformed under Reid. We had a decent back four under Buxton / Reid, makes you wonder why we were so poor until PR came in as we had a good squad of players for that league at the time.

Is that the same Phil Bardsley who scored on Wednesday ?

Always liked Kubicki, stupid decision by Reidy to drop him before he broke that record. And of course, Hall gave away a penalty in that game...
