Was Dariusz Kubicki any good?

Thank you for your erudite explanation of why.

Aye fair play, just bit sick of people praising him.

He has been very suspect positionally and is very poor going forward, looks like a centre half at right back to me.

Bardsley is a better player.

You fondly remember being 7? Fuck me you must have a cracking memory.

Disagree.

The players who are in the side when you first follow the lads are the one you have the fondest memories of.

I used to have pictures of Don Goodman on me wall, knew nout about him but he was one of the first players I saw.

Was a good defender, rarely panicked and could use the ball effectively. My favourite full back in my time supporting the lads. The memory sometimes plays tricks but IMO Dariusz and Martin Scott were probably the best full back combination we've had in recent times and were, perhaps, a little unlucky to play for us at time when there was little investment. 850, 000 for the pair. Excellent signings and bizarrely I think both we're signed by Mick Buxton! As was Agnew, another cracking signing for the time. Angell wasn't quite as successful though.[DOUBLEPOST=1383856086][/DOUBLEPOST]

Agree, I wrote a story about Leighton James being one of the best players ever. Found it in my old school exercise book recently clearing my dads loft. Mind there was also a story about assassinating Margaret Thatcher. I was ten at the time. Christ knows what the teachers thought!

Can't believe any fan gives a fuck about whether he got the record or not. He shouldn't have been dropped for Hall because Hall was shit. That's the only reason though.

I can't believe you give a fuck about fans giving a fuck

Few of my mates never heard of him either, ones 24 other 22. A bet most fans under 20 have never heard of him. Except most won't admit to it if asked.

Must be a generational thing. When I was a kid I used to love reading old programmes, Rothmans football year books etc.

to never have heard of a player who played over 100 games for the club in the not too distant past shows quite a lot of ignorance about the club tbh.

No ignorance at all. Its one f***ing player.

Solid full back, used to love claiming his free footy echo from the grey horse in east boldon after home games as well,f***ing tight arse.

FTM

Bloody Polish immigrant stealing jobs off the local lads

Oops, sorry wrong board.

I think I only really realised just how good he was when Gareth Hall replaced him and looked absolutely awful in comparison.

Dariusz was very dependable, and I don't think we have had anyone as good since.

Tend to agree there

Most the promotion team in 96 were local lads Buxton and Butcher signings, amazing really.

Sums up Bardsley, that.

Then why sign someone who is even worse?

That is our problem, every play we sign should be significantly better than we already have. But we just sign players who are the same level.

What's the point in signing a player for the sake of it, its the reason we have no style of play and had very little success.

I think Celustka is a decent footballer, which Bards isn't. He can overlap and not get himself sent off and everything.

We sign who we can cos everyone knows we're shite. Unless we offer them a big pay day, then they bugger off when an even bigger pay day comes along.

With me ma being Polish (beat the rush by 25 years don't worry) I always had a special affection for Darek. Me ganny and granda were visiting us once and had a walk around Roker Park before we played Boro midweek (0-1 Jamie Pollock) and he was coming into the ground so me grand parents stopped him for a chat and said he was an absolute diamond of a fella, proper family man and loved his kids, also loved Sunderland and the club.
