Was Dariusz Kubicki any good?

He was signed around the same time as Martin Scott, iirc by Buxton. Sure they both played in the same back four
In contrast to many on here, I never felt that he was outstanding, but he was a solid and dependable performer in the Championship.

He was certainly far better than what came before (Owers) and after (Hall). Until Scotty arrived, Kubicki also looked far better than his full back partner who was generally Ord played out of position or Martin Gray. Kubicki actually played a few games at left back with Owers or Hall on the right, and looked competent there too.

We didn't see much of him as a Premier League right back, as he played much of his time on the left, with Hall on the right. From memory Scotty got injured and Mickey Gray generally played in midfield. He would almost certainly have looked better in his natural position on the right.

Dariusz arrived at the end of Feb 94, Scotty signed at Christmas the same year. We played Bristol City on 17 December, which was Owers last game for us and Scotty's last for them. The player exchange went through the following week.

Too young to see him play (23 years young) and tbh I had never heard of him until today. Bloke at work says he is one of the best full backs we have had. Thoughts?
Aye he was quality. Really nice bloke aswell used to live on same estate on east Boldon.
Still pisses me off Reid dropped him for the game as he was about to break the all time consecutive appearances for Sunderland. Still don't get why.
If I ever meet Peter Reid I'll ask him. I did once but I was pissed in a restaurant in Manchster so it didn't enter my mind!!![DOUBLEPOST=1383851304][/DOUBLEPOST]

Someone asked him at that recent talk in, he claimed he didn't know about the record.

Makin not Kubicki

He was very, very good but we being SAFC stitched him up a treat due to the fact that if he'd played one more game we would have had to give his former club some cash if I remember correctly. If I am correct then we have made some f***ing ricks in my time supporting this lot. Dad! Why didn't you like football so you have guided me to watching a club who would not fail me for 50 odd f***ing years so I could have stayed with Blaydon Casuals or Bleach Green Juniors.

Good player - excelled in the championship, was too good for that league.

Nowadays he'd be a steady bottom half prem player and would be our best fullback if he was here now.

He got over 50 caps for Poland iirc who were a canny side

Makin was better. So was Venison. So was Jimmy Nicholl.

Far better than Gareth Hall of course. He was dropped for Hall's debut at Derby.

Have to say that it was the wrong decision, though Kubicki's consecutive games record is an irrelevance - you don't pick someone because of that. Not sure why fans have always made that an issue.

Never quite recovered from Ginola ripping his arse out in the derby when away fans were banned at Roker.
Ahhh so it was derby hall's debut ?
For some reason i thought leicester , long time ago but i vaguely remember he was sent off wasn't he ?

One of my favourite players from that time. Seemed to have a lot of good lads playing for us around then, was very solid and completely reliable. Don't remember Ginola tearing him apart (maybe I've blocked it out). Always felt confident that not much would get past him over the course of a game.

Was a legend on Champ Man at the time too! :)

He ran about 40 yards huffing and puffing behind the striker before hauling him down in the box, as I recall.

He was a consistent player in a poor team. Was an excellent value for money signing who did his job well. Not premier league class, Villa sold him to us, but good championship level player.

Rt
Good player, cost a 100k if I remember correctly and was quite nippy.
He wasn't nippy like...A decent secomd tier full back who liked to hit it long. Often makes worst ever villa elevens and was bizarly dropped by reid! He'd be slated if he played for us now.
