Was Dariusz Kubicki any good?

He was solid and could use both feet. Came from Villa. He was an educated man, degree, and carried on his studies here. Best full back we have had in my generation IMHO

iirc there was a forriner limit at the time and DK was edged out of their first XI because they had Earl Barrett and Neil Cox which freed up forriners to play elsewhere.

Can only assume he must have stood up to Reidy at some point & it wasn't appreciated because in every other sense the decision to drop him suddenly for GH was inexplicable & one of the biggest mysteries in the history of SAFC

A story was going around that Reid wanted em to go on the lash in Idols after a midweek away game and the bus pulled up outside. One player was excused cos his Mrs was heavily pregnant. DK said thanks but no thanks and hopped in a taxi home. Reid wasnt happy.

Yes he was excellent in my opinion. Read the game well and could defend. One of the few players in my time following the lads that every supporter will be in agreement that he was a true and proper professional and gave everything for the team.

Decent fullback , always did his job , nothing to get overexcited about tho.
Like most players from then would struggle in the PL. . Standard is so high nowadays.

I'm 25 and don't remember him. When I first started going Makin was the right back. I do remember him being in our squad on CM though. When exactly did we sell him? My first game was 97/8. Wonder if I saw him play?

Quality player from my childhood

Can't believe Reidy dropped him just so his mate could keep his record.

In contrast to many on here, I never felt that he was outstanding, but he was a solid and dependable performer in the Championship.

He was certainly far better than what came before (Owers) and after (Hall). Until Scotty arrived, Kubicki also looked far better than his full back partner who was generally Ord played out of position or Martin Gray. Kubicki actually played a few games at left back with Owers or Hall on the right, and looked competent there too.

We didn't see much of him as a Premier League right back, as he played much of his time on the left, with Hall on the right. From memory Scotty got injured and Mickey Gray generally played in midfield. He would almost certainly have looked better in his natural position on the right.

Best RB weve had in my 45yrs of being made fuckin miserable by Sunderland fuckin football club. I wouldve loved to see him playing in a better team like Reids "play off- 7th mob". Makin wasnt far behind mind.

Makin was better. So was Venison. So was Jimmy Nicholl.

Far better than Gareth Hall of course. He was dropped for Hall's debut at Derby.

Have to say that it was the wrong decision, though Kubicki's consecutive games record is an irrelevance - you don't pick someone because of that. Not sure why fans have always made that an issue.

Never quite recovered from Ginola ripping his arse out in the derby when away fans were banned at Roker.

Agree with this. He was okay, but nothing worth raving about at all.

I remember David Ginola absolutely torturing the poor bloke at Roker. That was tough to watch. He never really recovered from it.

Like others have said, Darius was solid and reliable. He was an excellent servant to the club. I think he was quite a quiet man and I can't ever remember him getting into any bother.
