I was thinking of doing some proper walking actually. Was looking at some of these, mainly as I still have a pair of timberland boots I bought in 1988 still going strong

I'll have a look at those too
I've had the 1st and 3rd gen Speedcross and they're excellent.Mine aren't boots but I use Salomon GTX 4's, I can't remember what I paid for them. But I walk in Greece a lot in them, admittedly during the summer months but they are excellent.
Ah cheers mateIve a pair of the Timberland Treeline and they are excellent
Ah cheers mate
Didn't know they had one.If you are near the York retail outlet place they have a Timberland shop. I got mine very cheap from there.
I have not washed mine in 4 years! they get wiped on some grass before they go in the boot bagAre all these boots recommendations relatively easy to clean free of clarts.
I need to get some this weekend, but being so bone idle, don’t fancy the task of having to go to much trouble keeping them in good nick.
Absolutely. Also Non-blister breathable socks are f***ing useless because if you get any sand or grit in your shoe it just cuts right through them*.if you are planning on doing a lot of hiking then socks are just as important as the boots I think
you want those socks with the looping yarn inside that stop blistering
True, it depends I suppose. If you intend to be hiking a lot you'll need to go a larger size than usual as your feet swell up something chronic. I didn't know this and I burst out of my first pair of cheap ones on the way out of Taunton.if your boots fit properly there should be no rubbing
I wear a single layer pair of decent will socks with a slightly thicker heel and thats it..but thats the benefit of trying on several pairs of boots in a shop to get a good fit
Just bought exactly the same todayI took a gamble and got a pair of Oboz Sawtooth II Mid B-Dry. I can confirm that they are very nice to look at and that I don't want to go out in them because they will get dirty. I will report back when I have plucked up the courage to go out in all the clarts and such.
Countryside mate.
I have only worn them on dog walks so far but they are very comfortable. Don't think there will be a breaking in period, as such. Suitably impressed so far.Just bought exactly the same today
