What I was thinking. Looked a totally different player there. Maybe his game is more suited to Aussie wickets.

Looks like Broad and Overton have been carted a bit today.
 
Phillippe doing well. Was it him or Hobson that has a British passport (thinking of possible DCCC approach if so).

Hobson I think last year - sure when he played some Durham 2s games some of the guys on here heard about a British mother(?) and hoped there may be a chance to bring him back as a non-overseas. Phillipe is the lad that was over this year at the centre of the NEPL visa storm. Can't imagine him smoking 90 odd against England helps Newcastles argument that he isn't/wasn't on a performance pathway...
 
So, what do we reckon 1st Test team will be? Seems as though Overton is benig lined up for no.9 slot

Cook, Stoneman, Vince, Root, Malan, Bairstow, Ali, Woakes, Overton, Broad, Anderson

Is there enough in that team to worry the aussies?

That will be the side.

Is there enough? Yes. It’s not a strong Aussie side.

I have a feeling that Woakes and Overton/Ball will be key. They know all about Jimmy and Broad, Woakes and the other one are new to them and may be surprise package

Khawaja is quality in Australia and handscomb averages 99 so far in Oz. Renshaw 50 or 60 iirc.

Smith will be batting 4.

So 6 and 7 are the only obvious weak spots purely as we have no idea who will be playing there.
