Vulcan XL319

Its refreshing to see another Vulcan talked about besides XH558 whose Trustees (you know, those who robbed an indecent living out of public donations to support her) would have you believe is the only airframe in the world.

I was at school inn the early 70s when one flew over looking like it was on fire. It crashed somewhere in Co. Durham
That would be this. I was at Northlea. As English finished and I returned to my classroom at lunchtime, another English stream, teacher included, were staring out of the window at a pillar of smoke.

Edit. Obviously far too late with the link.

I always think Sunderland should make more of that Museum.

I think its great though obviously needs some love and attention and much greater publicity.
The Vulcan should really be housed in a hanger, I know it would need to be pretty large, and expensive to build, (maybe a hanger could of been included as part of the build of the nearby IAMP project), but it would be worth it in the long run.

Without knowing all the facts around the organisation I would have thought they should be primed for a large Heritage Lottery Fund grant as I think they would tick all the boxes.

Whe I have visisted the volunteers seem like decent people. Would like to see the place develop.

Bump

Wasn’t expecting them to do this in 2019 let alone at all so well done to all involved. Amazing that this thing has stood here for 36 years in wind rain snow and sun and yet it still sounds like it runs like it did in 1983. Pure porn this
I knew absolutely bugger all about this!

Remember it landing. Was at Hylton Castle juniors at the time. Actually mid gym class! We could just about see the runway from the playground. Tremendous watching it circle about before coming in to land (or so we thought) before the familiar roar as he flew up and round again.

Also saw a couple of his practice runs in the days leading up to it as the house we lived in at the time in TEF was pretty much in line with the runway. Happy days!
