Good stuff

Bout a half hour exposure on the second, looking at the star trails

How is that possible? Surely that means the lightening folks, flames, smoke etc didn't move at all in that time?

In a sense they didn't. The lightning of course just appears in one place at a time

Some clouds are sharp because they only recorded on the sensor when lit by the lightning, ie for less than a second.

A other times the scene is pitch black, so nothing records, or spoils what is exposed.

This is a cunning feature of lightning photography if you are lucky enough to have a stable storm cloud to point a telephoto at

In a sense it's a bit of a cheat I suppose, that scene was never available to the human eye
