ballance best mates with joe root, vince best mates with selectors it would seem.
Not a single batsman has been picked on their form in county cricket this season.
Joke of a squad
Ballance's test record is somewhat skewed by belting Sri Lanka and India's medium pacers around in 2014.
Vince is good mates with Root and Stokes, they grew up in the age groups together.
So unfair
India don't have "medium pacers" they are quicker than our bowlers, and a very good attack.
This stuff is such nonsense, its like when you said the West Indies attack is shite, you just look at who they play for and not who the bowlers are, almost a tinge of stereotyping people
This whole 'West Indies/Bangladesh/Ireland are a quality test side' patter is wearing a bit thin.
India's seam attack in that series was Ishant Sharma, Varun Aaron, Buvneshwar Kumar and Stuart Binny. Kumar and Binny are closer to medium pace, Sharma is like a poor man's Stuart Broad, Aaron is fast but loose as fuck and averages 50-odd at test level.
Sri Lanka's seam attack was Prasad, Fernando, Eranga and Mathews, 80 mph trundlers. Not one of them averages under 35.
Hales is terrible at playing the short ball and has a clear flaw at 4th stump line with slips in place. He would get nothing in his arc and face nothing other than deliveries exposing these two areas. With him not going he is the one some will say would have made the difference based on nothing at all other than one day cricket which is a different sport. out of all of them I felt certain he would fail the most but we will never know.
Hales, Westley, Vince, Ballance I have no great expectations of any of them but the latter still has the best record out of any of them in tests and first class cricket.
I not disagreeing. You can make a damning case for tons of players NOT to go to Australia and there's certainly one for Ballance and Vince and Hales and Westley and umpteen others but coming up with a very strong case for someone to go who hasn't been selected is a lot harder. A poster above has thrown a dozen uncapped county players forward without knowing their strengths, weaknesses, ability to play pace bowling etc. With Ballance they have went back to someone with the best first class record out of anyone (49) and a decent test average despite his flaws. I'm not optimistic but I wouldn't have been with anyone else either.
I agree its embarrassing man. Theres only one English player to score 100 cc1 runs this season (Stoneman) maybe Burns. Literally no player has made a decent case to go to Australia and theres no one sitting at home that can feel hard done to.
What the fuck?
You said West Indies have a shit attack, when Gabriel and Roach were bowling 90mph in swinging conditions
Clueless.
they just fall back on players who came through the Lions system
Your standard patter every series: "West Indies/Bangla/Zimmers are a good test team", "West Indies/SL/India have some outstanding fast bowlers". It's just empty rhetoric to make you sound more authoritative than your adversary.
Not one seamer Ballance faced in the summer of 2014 and smacked all over has ever been in the ICC Top 10 bowlers. Put up against quality seamers like Harris, Johnson, Philander and Morkel he has been poor, anchored in his crease and a cheap wicket.
Clueless.
He isn't terrible, he has just a few flaws, they all do.
I would back him at 5 like, well as much as I can, I think he was worth ago certainly more over Vince
the selectors have never ever rated Hales like, he got a 100 in a 20/20 world cup, and it still took him years to get into one day side. I think he has been slightly unfairly treated.
Not sure you can say that, some players have scored consistently for a while, what about Sam Robson?
He has clearly outperformed Vince
The reality is selectors don't really know what they are doing, and they just fall back on players who came through the Lions system as they know more about them
Actually look at his record season by season since the beginning of 2014 (4 seasons). You might get a surprise i did. Averages around 30 since then and I don't think hes made 1000 runs once in that time (maybe once). yet his name still comes up.
You can't do 4 seasons like
It's irrelevant how could he was 4 years ago
How much did he average in last 18 months
4 years ago where was Jennings, know what I mean
Yeah fair enough point mate. Looking at his record he has been better - the end of last season he was good and has been steady this year. It was the two before where he was awful. He can probably count himself unfortunate.
There are loads of lads who deserve to go ahead of Vince, but none are ripping it up in county cricket giving the selectors no choice but to select them.I just plucked him out of nowhere really
Vince wasn't scoring runs when he first called up and scored no runs since
Just don't like this lazy line in the press of we have tried everyone else, nobody left
We haven't and there are loads of lads who deserve ago

Yes but he has been in the England set up and got dropped just like Vince did. Iam talking about the likes of Northeast and Joe Clark at Worcester. Personally I would have taken Northeast but if the selectors have doubts he has not scored so many runs this season that they had to pick him, which sadly when the selectors have reservations about you you have to do.Ballance did

If I was a selector Stoneman would have been given a chance 2 years ago, not that I think he is nailed on at international standard but watching him he has looked the best best of all the openers they have tried.
James Vince is a joke of a pick.
I can make a case for all the others. Personally, I'd have gone for Worcester's Clarke and Hales (before the punch-up) fiasco. You can make an argument for Ballance, but he looks like a Graeme Hick for our times, for me. He'll pile them up in county, alright, for the rest of his career. But Starc will be licking his lips. Malan, I think is very lucky but some people reckon he's got the technique for out there. I'm not sure. Vince is a joke.
I'd have gone for Plunkett over Ball too. But Overton is leading wicket taker this year, isn't he? 40 wickets at 21 with the sort of bounce and control that Tremlett used to good effect over there. He's worth a go. Wood doesn't look the same Wood of even a year or so ago to me. I worry about his body.
Stokes is stumped. The Daily Express have got a video of him mocking Jordan's disabled son now (whilst battered). England's bowling attack without him look way down on theirs. Their batting is not much better than ours, but I'd back Smith and Warner to get more than Root and Cook on their surfaces.
We're going to get humped 3-1, I reckon. Our only hope is if the Anderson of 2011 turns up and Ali hits a rich vein.
You know, on country averages the spare wickie should be in the side ahead of Stoneman, Malan, Vince (and Westley). Worth a thought given Bairstow could easily bat four or five.
Feel sorry for Leech too, but Warne reckons Crane is the real deal. Rashid is a waste of time, for sure, so he may be worth a punt. The Lions are out there at the same time anyway, which is very sensible.
Bout time somebody else raised him. The lad has clear talent, for me. The long-term middle order solution.
Mate the bid in bold is utter shite, its off ages ago, they already published it then and nobody cared.
