Villa & Emery

Would be amazing if the likes of Liverpool and Man City all played out careful score draws allowing Villa to steal in and snatch the title.

opinions eh.
But honestly their better players don't get anywhere near the top 4 teams. Emery is a magician. Spine is strong flanks not so much. These same players were getting slated before Emery arrived.
We've just beat Man City and Arsenal within the space of 4 days. Might as well just hand us the league now

It's true that many of the squad were there under Gerrard which begs the question is Emery great or is Gerrard sh%t? My feeling is that it's a mixture of both.

However, looking at the spine of the team, they are all top 10 players - Martinez, the best in the world. Konsa, just broken into the England set up and has matured into a top, top defender, Torres who was on the brink of signing for Real Madrid and wanted by many clubs, Luiz who IMO is the best midfielder who has ever played for the club, McGinn who would get in more than half of the current top 10 sides and Watkins who has also recently broken into the England set up.

On top of that, you have Kamara who Liverpool tried to sign recently and Carlos.

Maybe we could improve on our full back although our No1 LB (Moreno) is just recovering from injury.

A bench yesterday including Diaby, Cash, Moreno, Lenglet, Zaniolo, Duran, Ramsey is as good as I've seen us have.
Emery is excellent, absolute top quality. Think you’re a shoe in for the top 4 with him in charge.

You got any class fringe players you can lone us in January? 😅

You won't win the league but champions league for Villa IMO

Its a great time to be a Villa fan. The vast majority of us know where this will end but given the turgid football we've had to bear for the last decade or so, we're just going to enjoy the moment because unless you're a glory hunter you never know when they'll come round again. It'll be typical villa after this high to now lose our next home game v Sheff U and for all the hullabaloo to come to a crashing halt. For that reason I'm just going to enjoy it for what it is - a great run, a great couple of results and Villa being treated seriously again. I'm loving every single minute of it.

As for the players i don't agree that there are no players top 4 sides wouldn't want. Arsenal tried to but Luiz earlier in the year for a start. If we were to sell Martinez (who is the best keeper in the world...as his Lev Yashin award testifies...), the would be a queue of top clubs clamouring for him. Does he have a mistake in him? Well, which keeper/player doesn't? However, he has added consistency to his play. As for strength in depth we've played for most of this season without 4 first team starters (Mings/Buendia still out, and Moreno/Ramsey just on their way back). Also, Carlos has been out injured and not that long back in, and Traore has been injured and is currently injured again. It always to go unnoticed that we have had a lot of high profile player injuries which we've covered.

Where will we finish? No idea, but it is not beyond all realms of possibilities that we achieve 10 more wins out of the last 22 games . That would give us 65 points and be enough for Europe again. That'll do for now. Finally on the Conference league it seems to be a bit of a misapprehension that there are no teams in it. Fiorentina are still decent, and Fenerbache will be difficult. However, it will have escaped no-ones attention that Eintracht Frankfurt have just stuffed Bayern 5-1. It will be a tough trophy to win.

He's doing a fantastic job so far but it's only December. I can recall SAFC being 2nd in the PL on Christmas Day.

The Yashin award doesn’t make him the best keeper in the world, these awards are heavily decided by winning major tournements and he was the World Cup winning keeper, that’s not to say he isn’t a fantastic keeper and I think he’d be a very good addition for anyone who needed a keeper no matter how big the club but he’s not quite the level of Alisson, Oblak, Courtois etc

Best keeper in the world  The bloke is a total bellend as well.
I don't care what he's like as a person. As long as he isn't a Birmingham City fan, he's fine by me.

Villa led the first ever PL all the way through and blew up right at the end when Man U won their first one. A few years earlier, we were head to head with Liverpool all the way through to the final month under Graham Taylor. Again, we blew up at the death.

In 1999, we were top at Xmas and then went on a 2 month winless run, ended up in the Intertoto or something similar.

It's unlikely that a squad like Villa's can last the distance but at this moment in time, we're realistic contenders.

The "handing the league now" comment was tongue in cheek, aimed at an equally silly statement.

I’d love them to win it. Mags hate them and they’ll be confused as hell as to why they spent £400m to finish 7th in a season where Villa won the league .
Mags hate them?
Really?
Think it is other way around to be honest.
Would be great for them to win it. Doubt they have the squad but Top 4 would be some season.
Some of the stick he received from the press whilst managing Arsenal was disgraceful. It was borderline xenophobic. He’s clearly an exceptional manager
Assume he didn’t have the control at Arsenal he has know, and at other clubs where he has been successful.
Clearly the team he has with him know what he wants, how he works and it just ‘fits’.
Sometimes the club and manager just don’t work. Sometimes there isn’t an obvious reason why.

why i like him

Emery does all his own video analysis and, during his time at Valencia, gave players USB sticks to watch tactical clips on. He suspected one player never watched them, so gave him a blank USB and then asked him what he’d make of the clips
i applaud this level of shithousery

The mags I was sat on a table with in Shark bar on Saturday night hated them like. I asked if it was 'cos they took the piss out of ya, and then laughed when they answered aye.

Mags man. I dinnar about "The Entertainers", but yas are certainly fuckin' entertaining.

The "Who Is Your Next Messiah" banner?
Why would that cause a hatred ffs?
Just craic.

Yeah, its because of Villa fans taking the pee when we relegated them in what was it 09? 10? and the 'Sob on the tyne' and other stuff. Newcastle haven't got over it - or more accurately the press like to bring it back up every time we play, but Villa fans don't care either way about Newcastle. The new ownership may help change that view point, however.

A decade back they were the team I couldn’t wait to go down, much like Everton now, was sick of them stinking the place up and nice to see someone new go down every now and then, then I didn’t want them back up and wanted them down that first season they were back as I couldn’t stand Grealish back when he was with them

Since Emery took over though, yes they’ve spent a few hefty fees but not many aren’t in that league these days and nowhere near as much as the big boys but they look like they’ll give anyone a good rest right now, love watching Diaby and some of the players starring right now looked poor under previous gaffers, proper team and going about it about as right as you can for the premier league, fair play to them
Everton have had 2 relegation battles in about 20yr not sure how that makes them stinking the place out

This used to wind me up no end. All that Good Ebening pish annoyed me. Taking the piss out of a bloke who can speak multiple languages when half of them can barely string a sentence together in English.

He’s a likeable bloke and despite how it ended for him with us I wish him well. Even when they beat us the other night a lot of our support can stomach it because it was him.
