Villa & Emery

Noticed last season they had suddenly all become really good at shielding the ball and getting their bodies in the way on a 50/50. It just meant they were able to retain possession when they had it, and more likely to get it back when they didn't. Little but fundamental skills that make a big difference. Great coaching to be able to sharpen skills at this level.

the coach is outstanding because there's no way that squad is top half let alone title challengers. Big up big Dick Emery

Think it might be 27. Hopefully they draw one then win some more to put the cat among the pigeons at top end
Saying it’s 24 here?
Doubt they’ll reach that 😀

It's true that many of the squad were there under Gerrard which begs the question is Emery great or is Gerrard sh%t? My feeling is that it's a mixture of both.

However, looking at the spine of the team, they are all top 10 players - Martinez, the best in the world. Konsa, just broken into the England set up and has matured into a top, top defender, Torres who was on the brink of signing for Real Madrid and wanted by many clubs, Luiz who IMO is the best midfielder who has ever played for the club, McGinn who would get in more than half of the current top 10 sides and Watkins who has also recently broken into the England set up.

On top of that, you have Kamara who Liverpool tried to sign recently and Carlos.

Maybe we could improve on our full back although our No1 LB (Moreno) is just recovering from injury.

A bench yesterday including Diaby, Cash, Moreno, Lenglet, Zaniolo, Duran, Ramsey is as good as I've seen us have.

Diaby is a class act imo presume recent benching is due to a knock? Bailey starting to show his worth too, two very exciting wingers if they can get on pitch and on song at same time

Bailey has shocked myself and most Villa fans. 12 months ago, we'd have all thought it was best for all parties to part company. He's currently keeping Diaby out although I agree, Diaby is class. He's been benched for the last couple and maybe just a little period of recovery after a few months of the intensity of the PL coupled with 6 cup games.

Not sure on Martinez being the best in the world. He’s good but there’s always the chance of a howler I think. The best thing about him is his personality, he’s a winner and doesn’t look like he’s short of confidence.

I agree on Luiz he’s been amazing this season, seems to be getting better every year.

Whilst he's a very very good keeper he isn't the best in the world. Isn't even the best in the Premier League

No way that squad is top half are you serious ? Nice how you got the big Dick joke in there as well. Can’t think why no one else thought of it.

What? It's an excellent squad..it's comfortably top half
opinions eh.
But honestly their better players don't get anywhere near the top 4 teams. Emery is a magician. Spine is strong flanks not so much. These same players were getting slated before Emery arrived.

Aye opinions. To say it's not top half is absolutely mental imo

I’d put their squad over the below without any doubt

Luton
Sheffield United
Burnley
Everton
Bournemouth
Forest
Wolves
Fulham
Palace
Brentford
Brighton

So that makes it top ten without a doubt then I’d make an argument it’s stronger than West Ham’s and probably pretty similar to Newcastles and not far off Spurs but the likes of Son and Maddison probably edge that leaving the traditional big 6 ahead of them and then they’re clearly a better sum of their parts than the likes of Chelsea

Mcginn is the type of player someone like United and Spurs badly need. No idea why no one has shown an interest.

Now you are better/ on par with them i can't see him going anyway.

While in the Championship a few years ago didn’t the owner sell the stadium to himself to raise cash? I remember they would have been fully screwed if they hadn’t gone up when they did. Credit to them for kicking on but that’s a massive gamble.
