Very good window

This is JR's first real window as far as I'm concerned.
Last summer was getting bodies in quickly.
January is always a bit of panic buying.
This summer I think the players coming in are more considered and will improve the balance.
I read somewhere that JR was not happy with the players at his disposal last season.
He seems to have addressed the missing links from last season.
So no excuses. Finishing 2nd will be failure.

We will be very weak at LB if Oviedo goes. That position will definitely need strengthening

I would also like us to sign a big strong and dominant CB

Oviedo (like the majority of his time here) offered very little last season.

The last of Moyes' terrible buys to get shot off. The only real compliment I have of him is at least he appears to care, does he care enough to take less money elsewhere?

Six assists from full back equates to offering very little? Interesting stuff.

Agreed. I'm quite happy, the new lads sound decent, but being honest I can't remember watching any of them (I'd heard of McNulty but couldn't have told you anything other than the fact he's a Scottish striker) so I'd struggle to be overly confident, I'd just say I'm optimistic. In theory bringing Leadbitter, Grigg, a tall decent prospect centre back and a quick winger who had worked with Ross before and done well enough to earn a move to Celtic sounded great, thought we'd kick on and go up, instead we looked pretty poor from the minute Maja left. Just need to see how they get on, not long to wait so no need to rush to judgment, I'll judge the window by about October!
agree ... however we looked poor long before Maja left

Started the season with like 4 assists then got dropped for Hume when he went on internationals. Came back in few games later, got sent off & wasn't seen again for months.

He'll have still finished with the most assists from a full back even though he played less minutes than Matthews, O'Nien & James. Probably finished with the most assists behind Gooch & McGeady.

Matthews had 6 assists.

Matthews had 6 assists.

Good numbers then seeing as he got dropped from January onwards. I knew they were close in January as they were our 3rd & 4th top for assists then we benched them both.

Was creating a thread on that & chances created but getting the data for the defenders was too difficult. Did one on the strikers in L1 instead.

And that's why Ross will play 3 at the back and put Hume in a wingback position. It suits his game more and helps us press teams in their own half..
Wing back, left back, the same applies

The same applies if he goes, we will be very weak there

When it comes to signings all I think is it is better to have tried and failed rather than stick with what we had last year . The wage bill was unsustainable for EFL 1 and had to be reduced , on the face of it the recruitment looks sound and the window still has a while to go . The players we have brought in want to be here which is a bonus unlike the mercannries we have paid millions for in the past resulting in the position the club finds itself in now . The supporters need to get behind the team ,let's see some positivity from the manager and his team as well as the supporters , some posters are criticising players before they have been seen and not giving them a chance which is wrong . Haway the lads !

I have to agree with the OP in general. I think that so far we have strengthened the areas required apart from an attacking midfielder/winger.

What I do like about this pre-season is how quietly and efficiently we have went about our business. I also like how Ross clearly has a plan about the way he wants us to play. Last season always felt a little bit like he didn't know his best team or the best formation. Whatever you think of 3-5-2, at least he has picked a system and has went about buying players to play in that system instead of trying to shoehorn players into positions and systems they aren't suited to.

We'll see as the season goes on of course just how successful a window it has been but overall i'm quite confident for this year. Think we'll get the job done and go up automatically.
