Could mean anything really couldn't it? Something that is nearly done one day but be derailed and then never happen the next

It's close then we speak to the player and he wants more than a snickers and a packet of crisps to sign, and then it isn't close.

If you get Vergini, then you can get another LB as he's your cover at RB. Still would need to upgrade Roberge with a real quality CB before the season starts, be that Zouma, Van Dijk, Moore, Beckenbauer etc

so you believe its safc's fault re borini not signing? You wont wear the possibility maybe Liverpool may have reneged on a contractual matter out of our control?

...has been the word of choice to describe our transfer dealings. Most recently used about Alonso, Vergini and (interestingly) Borini.

But what does 'close' mean in these circumstances? Is it a case of everything being agreed except for one detail which needs to fall into place for the deal to happen? Does it just mean we have had a bid accepted?

The Borini one in particular seems weird.

The phrase "close, but no cigar" seems apt.

According to bbc Newcastle news at 7.30 this morning.

All 3 very close to signing.

Look at the time though. At that time in the morning nobody is working on all cylinders. I would be very surprised if anyone had a decent cup of coffee and a breakfast inside them when they said that.

Every report has us as looking at or are very close to signing.

poyet has already said that these 3 were the ones that were close last week so it looks like every one of those deals is being held up for financial reasons and he also states we want a box to box goalscoring midfielder but they are expensive, we are currently in the black regarding transfers so what the fuck is going on?
