VAR

The last sentence is a load of bollocks imo, considering whoever makes the decision with VAR is not even there, so why will the Kop make any difference.
I didn’t say VAR would’ve given it. The ref would’ve given it and VAR would’ve concurred. It was a blatant pen.

No it wasn’t in real time, very seldom is with one look from one angle.

Seen as the best ref in the country didn’t give it in real time, suggests it wasn’t blatant at all in real time.

I just don't think it should be used for offsides.
Nor should everything be checked. It ruins the human bit about football.

Maybe introduce something like each manager can challenge one decision by VAR each match and other than that just use it for blatant red cards or mistaken identity.

I've said before, football is unique, in that, it's the errors and bad calls that are at the heart of the game, take those away, you destroy the passion supporters have for this, imperfect, and therefore, perfect game to get you hooked!
In workplaces up and down the country each Monday was seen as a time to chew the fat over dodgy decisions. I think VAR has took that away unfortunately.

Just saw the Leicester penalty. No doubt there is a touch, I just don't understand how a penalty can be given when Ndidi puts his foot 20 cms ro his right, in no way a natural way of running or dribbling. That is simulation to me, in the same way that dragging your foot to let the defender get a touch is.
I agree with there was a touch, but a touch does not make you fall over, a touch is not a foul, if a player dribbling in the centre circle our wing can stay in there feet when they get clipped, why do they suddenly fall over in and around the box, this is not a var fault it’s a fault in the game and the refs, a touch is not a foul

Part of the problem with it is in other sports when it is used they just accept the decision and get on with it, where in football fans always looking for other things, conspiracies etc etc.

Are really suggesting the same thing would not happened this season, ( it’s first season) if someone else was in charge?

It the fact it’s new not who is in charge.
VAR is not used the same way in PL as in other competitions. It is way worse, and for that you can naturally blame Mike Riley. This even worse than the string of penalties in the World Cup.

What other sports? My main issue is that a massive decision in football very often is what decides the game. In other sports that isn't always the case.

Really? I think it’s given us more to talk about for all the wrong reasons
There is still a bit of me that thinks some fans have got what deserve for slagging of inevitable refs mistakes and calling for consistency which was never acheiveable, rather just accepting those mistakes as part and parcel of the game.

Or yeah defintely agree with that, a incorrect decision, in football can have more impact for sure.

But what I was trying to say is in sports like cricket and Rugby, they just accept the decision whichever way it goes, without suspecting foul play.

Where in football, you here statements like it’s only because it’s a big club, it would have been given if at the other end, etc etc, which is nonsense imo

So it’s not because it’s new and in its first season?

Yes as Mike Riley has gone for his own interpretation on how VAR is used in the Premier League which is against how it has been used by UEFA/FIFA in the Champions League and World Cup. Why arent referees going to use the monitors in England like they are abroad? Who has decided to implement his own interpretation of the handball rule? Mike Riley.
It is a wider point imo. He has been in charge of referees for nearly a decade now and every year the standard of officiating has got worse in England to the point where we didnt have a referee at the last World Cup and none doing the knockout games in the Champions League last season. What i am saying is Riley was a poor referee and he is an even worse administrator the fact he has bungled VAR isnt a surprise.

Firstly it’s well documented we were due to have a ref at the last World Cup, Clattenburg, but he withdraw himself, so it had nothing at all to do with the standard in this country.

The standard of officiating in this country has not got worse, however the ridiculous over the top sctrunity of refs has and did

The pace of the game has got quicker, the cheats have got much better, the feigning injury has got better, the diving has got better, meaning mistakes are absolutely inevitable under the them circumstances.

It is nearly impossible for the modern day ref nowadays, whoever is in charge will not change that, unless FIFA whoever starts punishing the cheats properly!

If someone else had been in charge for them 10 years it would not have made a scrap of difference.

Exactly.

And let me add, I agree with you on points like the refs not being as bad as people say, pace of the game making it harder to ref etc. VAR just isnt the answer, as it does not bring consistency. And for the PL it even takes decisions out of the hands of the ref, how can anybody in their right mind applaud that?

True and fair points but Clattenburg left as he and Riley didnt get on who didnt rate him and wasnt getting as many of the big games as other referees. How long did it take him to get the FA Cup final for example. Collina had Clattenburg down as one of the best around and id take his opinion over Mike Riley.
Sorry but the standard is poor right now-it is the same faces getting games every week who have no risk of accountability if they are making errors consistently. Refs like Jon Moss, Kevin Friend, Stuart Atwell have been on the Select List for years and just arent up to it. There is a reason why English referees arent getting the top games in Europe and international level anymore.
Well youve missed my point, the referees now have a tool to help them in VAR but its not been used correctly in line with protocols as they do in the Champions League/World Cup because their boss says they cant use the pitchside monitor. Who is responsible for that? Its Mike Riley again.

Or yeah don't get me wrong not appauldinh it, but this looking for consistency is part of the problem, consistency is not possible and people calling for it has caused VAR.

Well yeah I can accept you last paragraph as bow to your greater knowledge as don't know who makes the decision to go to pitchside monitor and if Riley is responsible for that, he needs to take his share of the blame.

But totally disagree about the standard, mistakes are down to the reasons I put in my last post, and them mistakes were always going to made before VAR, whoever was in charge would make no difference.

So in short he may be culpable for some things, but he is not for the inevitable mistakes refs will make in real time as they have and always will happen.

I’ve got no refereeing experience whatsoever and called it whilst watching the game, so I’d have to disagree with you. Trent moved his arm out to stop the flight of the ball - what’s handball if that isn’t it?

Had a vociferous home crowd screamed penalty, it’s given. The ref bottled it in my opinion and VAR should’ve corrected him, but it seems they’re fairly reluctant to overturn a ref’s orginal decision.

It’s all about opinions like and clearly you see it differently; fair enough.
