I hope this one is different but to me this is exactly the same sort of "squad filler" player we have signed under every other manager.

A player in his mid 20's that's never really done anything of note that will probably only make half a dozen appearances a year while blocking the development of our youngsters.

We should only be signing players who will go straight into our 1st team or players who are under 21 & can fill in as squad players now but are likely to improve into 1st team players as the current 1st team move on or get old.

Which we have in abundance?

We have the smallest squad in the league, so need 'decent/above average' players for squad who can 'do a job'. Plus we are losing Killa & Bramble, who need replacing? So why not replace with freebies who are better...?

Firstly, now do you know he's a plodder?

Secondly, we are going to need loads of bodies in, they can't all be for big transfer fees.

I don't know he's a plodder but I think it's fairly safe to say if he can't replace Cuellar from the 1st 11 then that's exactly what he'll be & considering we also have Brown who'll be expecting to challenge for a 1st team spot, for all the game time Bramble/Kilgallon & Mangane have had this season I can't see the point in bringing another player in just as filler clogging up the wage bill. We'd be better off trying to develop Egan or Laing to cover half a dozen games.

I hope I'm wrong about it but this isn't a promising kid of 20/21 leaving his club because they want 1st team games, it's a bloke in his mid 20's who has been averaging about 15 games a season in a poor league for years.

That's all speculation, he might be coming here to start.

It's a bloke who is possibly Maritimo's most important player and apart from the odd suspension has been ever present for them since he signed. That averaging 15 games a season statistic is a complete and utter lie.

This. Excluding Brown who is never fit, we will have 2 centre halves come 1 June, both in their 30s. I'd like to think we'll have 2 or 3 new central defenders by the end of the window. We also need 2 LBs, a right back, a winger and 2 strikers. We can't pay big money for all of them

I think we'll just go for the 1 lb as Colback can cover there if needed and i think you'll see maybe 1 striker and CM come in. Agreed with the 2 CB, winger and RB.

The difference on here between when we sign players or when other clubs sign players is hilarious.

Club A signs a cheap player from abroad: Our scouts are f***ing shite, why do we keep paying over the odds for British players and other clubs get bargains from abroad?!

We sign a cheap player from abroad: If he's cheap he must be f***ing shite, why do we keep signing plodders? We must be skint!

Hilarious but true.

Ladies & gentlemen I give you Phil Babb ;)
Was Phil Babb only 25yo when we signed him? Thought not.

This.

We have some f***ing nuggets for supporters.

Di Canio needs to find a few bargains, as well as find a few he'll pay a fair sum for.

I had never heard of Eric Roi when he signed, but he was quality for the limited time he was with us.

I can only go from the info available & that is that he played 25 games for Aris from 2008-10 & then 50 games for Maritimo's from 2010-13.

If you have links to more accurate information then publish them

You looking at the right bloke?

Pretty much ever-present for Maritimo in the last 3 years, 27 out of 29 games in the league this year, played every single cup and Europa league game.

Only games he's missed in the last two years have been through suspension.

For Maritimo: This season he has played 27 league games and 9 Europa League games (In the Primeira Liga there are 30 league games per season). Last season he played 25 league games and 8 Cup Games. The season before he played 25 league games and 3 Cup games.

For Aris: He was an ever present in his first season there, playing all 21 games after he was signed. In his second season at Aris the club were skint and he couldn't play as he wasn't getting paid and was in a contractual dispute because of that.

I don't know why people feel the need to make stuff up to back up their opinions.

He was wanted by Rennes, Lille, Lyon, Nancy, Bordeaux, Sevilla, Osasuna, Reading and West Brom. As well as turning down Sporting Lisbon because he wanted to go to a better league.

Don't know why people are trying to make out he's some plodder just because he's out of contract.

Is that from his Wiki page by any chance? You do realise it says this below his stats?
* Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only and correct as of 12 May 2012.

So basically his Maritimo stats don't include this season, so he actually averages 25 games a season.

Not making anything up - those figures came from wiki but because of how unreliable that can be I then went to soccerbase which only had 2 league games difference to wiki since he signed for Maritimo & didn't have any history before that which normally means its unreliable & they couldn't verify it. I'd have posted links but I was on my phone.

As I said earlier I hope I'm wrong & he's not just being brought in as filler that will take up a wage without contributing much. I'd be over the moon if he's good enough to keep our older Centre Halves down to 1 1st team spot.

does he play left back as well as defence....just thinking we might not get our star no 3..

:eek:no way in the world he knocked back those clubs to come here.

We are going to need that many players some will be frees and adding to the squad

Agreed mate we don't have an unlimited transfer budget and we are going to need a fair few players this summer. The key areas for me would be a left winger, centre midfielder and both full back positions and this is where the money we do have will be spent. You could add a striker to that but in Fletch and Sess we have a decent strikeforce for now.

Without sounding like a complete tit, who is recommending him? Is he from the last lot of scouts that we got shot of, from the mysterious new DoF or from Di Canio/his team himself? Anyone have a clue?
