UVB lamps for Vitamin D

Anyone use one? I always get really itchy skin in the winter. Pretty sure it’s VitD deficiency and the tablets I take don’t do anything. Wondering if anyone can shed ‘light’ on if they work for this, how often you use it & how much you paid?

Itchy skin is from air conditioning.
Should take Vitamin D supplements anyway to be honest.

Go outside. Free.

Why do you think it is Vit D deficiency, in light of Vit D tablets not working?
Not much sunlight about in Jan marra.
Hope you get a useful answer. Nearly everyone in northern Europe is vitamin D deficient and much worse if you have darker skin.
Yup. Eating it is shit too. Hardly any gets ingested via food/tablets.

I’m sat in a/c all year round. Only a problem in cold weather. Supplements for D are shit. Getting it through your skin is by far the best way.

Aye, it's winter dry skin, it's a thing.
Have a google.

In Australia?
Researchers at the University of Manchester have been looking into the relationships between sunlight exposure and vitamin D. In simple terms, they have found that – for lighter skin types – daily sunlight exposure for 10-15 minutes between April and September provides sufficient year-round vitamin D while also minimising the risks of sunburn and skin cancer.

Did you miss op specifically asking about winter? The season the Northern hemisphere is in now. I also doubt that even if the sun was as strong here as in April that you'd want to be out for 15 minutes in shorts and t shirt today in the UK.

Go back a few hundred years and people were outside for most of the day. The coming of electric lighting changed how we worked and basically fucked us for good re Vitamin D. If you want to be well balanced, become a farmer.

Dry skin is very common during winter, which can become itchy if it starts to crack. My wife had some bloods taken recently by the nurse practitioner and her bloods came back as showing vitamin D deficiency (as we suspected). She’s been given a loading dose to take once a week for 7 weeks then they’ll test her bloods for calcium after that loading period.

He mentioned his symptoms being prevalent in winter. Did you miss the bit about April-September producing year round Vit D? He also mentioned Vit D tablets haven't worked.

Too many people don't seem to appreciate the answer to an awful lot of low level health problems is 'A balanced diet and regular exercise'. These days some seem to think everything can be cured by buying a gadget off ebay.

You replied fifteen minutes a day to a post about January but ok. If you're upset at the op wanting a fix to his issue, feel free to bring it up to him.

A lamp on a morning really helped me with sleep and mood during winter. I can't say owt about skin.
