USA car hire?

Rented a U-haul the other day, just under 20 bucks a day,the bill for two days came to 200+ dollars, mileage bumps it right up.

Car hire is more expensive everywhere since COVID. All of the hire companies sold off their stocks to to survive the pandemic and haven't been able to build them up quick enough as demand has returned quicker than expected and manufacturers still aren't back to full capacity because of the Chinese supply chain problems.
true.
last year we paid about 800 euro for a month's hire in portugal. this year it seems to be coming back down to where it was though and iirc it's about 600.
we always use the same firm, not one of the big places but it's always a just about new car.

Just use Uber. Easy to use and cheaper than a hire car.

I never hire a car on holiday as it's too much hassle with parking, foreign road rules and you have to be very careful with the drinking. Much prefer to explore by public transport - though I will accept that isn't possible in some countries, especially the US outside of major cities.

However, sometimes adding a hire car to a flight can make the overall price cheaper even if you never pick it up as it turns the booking into a package

Book with free cancellation and set a reminder to check weekly. Prices fluctuate quite a bit and often the best deals are way in advance of dates or just before you go.

Booked a car a month ago for Spain in May and have amended booking twice to reduce cost already.

Sorry, can't find the thread where people seemed to have some tips for beating the crazy prices at the moment.

My parents have just booked to go out to Orlando in September, but cars are north of £600 for 2 weeks. Which is bonkers compared to previous years.

Does anyone know how to get a more reasonable price?
Ta.
Lots of people just use Lyft/Uber in Orlando now rather than hiring cars

There’s no secret deals it’s just shopping around

going to states for 3 weeks in may, car hire has shot up and that quote seems par for the course . Even more expensive if you drop off in a different state.

We had to book a 12 seater minivan for this coming summer (2 weeks) and honestly i've spent less on some holidays in total. Into thousands and was eyewatering

Just checked the prices again for our trip in October on uscarhire and it was £65 cheaper so I've cancelled and rebooked. Will keep checking every week or so, hoping it will drop again.
