Not that strange a name but The Moon Under Water was George Orwell's idea in an essay he wrote about what the perfect English pub needed to have

TIm Martin must be a sarcastic twat. Because the first few Wetherspoons were all called the "Moon under water", and Spoons are about as far removed from Orwells vision as you can get!!!!
On pub names (and sorry if this is SEB) but the UKs shortest pub name is "Q" and the longest is "The Old Thirteenth Cheshire Astley Volunteer Rifleman Corps Inn. Theyre on the same street as well.

There used to be a "Hairy Lemon" in Middlesbrough, and a "Near Boot" in Carlisle

Never understood how "Slug and Lettuce" became a successful brand name. I know they're not strictly pubs, but even so its a terrible name for any place that sells food.

Fawcett Inn - Portsmouth
I was working a couple of hundred yards from that pub last week, next time I'm there I'll take a photo.
There was one in Salisbury called 'The Conquered Moon' which was actually the result of the local brewery (Gibbs Mew) in recognition of the moon landings. They also ran a competition for the best slogan for the brewery which resulted in the directors deciding that 'Gibbus Gibbs' was the winner but everybody in the town knew that the answer was 'Gibbs & Mew make you spew!'
There was a "Man on the Moon" in newcastle named after the first moon landing, it changed its name to "The Jubilee" in 1977 in honour of the Queens Jubilee.

There was one in Plymouth called
"The Pennycomequick"

Not what you think you dirty bassas.

It goes back to when there was a ferry and the charges were a penny to go quickly, or a ha'penny to get across slower.

The area is still called Pennycomequick.
I found out the other day that there’s one in Falmouth too. The one in plymuff is shut and turned into flats now
Hole in the wall
There’s one in Bodmin

There’s The Clink in Callington
The Who’d of thought it Inn in St Dominic

Not weird as such but never heard of another one, but I love "The Blind Beggar"
Had a mooch over to it last time I was in London. The walk to it from Tower Bridge was interesting, skid row comes to mind. Homeless sleeping on double mattresses in the middle of the street.
