Unlocking an EE phone

just got an upgrade today and have filled out a form for my old phone to be unlocked to pass it on to a family memeber to use. It says it could take up to 10 days to do which is fair enough but I'm wondering if I take my SIM card out the old phone will the unlock still work for that device ?

Make sure you can still get a signal as your settings might be text to you. iPhones are unlocked from Apple so it will be unlocked when connected to iTunes
