United supporters...

I was at the 3-3 anarl, think we were winning but got pegged back? Nearly 25 years ago so all a bit hazy :)

3 nowt up at H/T. :(

remember it for two reasons -

1: I was sat on the front row and had a stand up argument over the barrier with Mick Harford when they had a corner. He'd slagged us off when we met him and the rest of the Derby team when we got snowed in en route to Spurs that season and I was only brave enough to give him some grief about it from the stands of the Baseball ground whilst he has mid game!

2: Mick (who travelled up with us from Selby) would have had 5 aways that day if we had held on, it was a record payout by Vernons that weekend on 5 aways at £66k. To this day he still mentions Dean Saunders in not very polite terms as he is convinced he took a dive for their equalising pen.

Cant believe it was that long ago mind

Why are City not as good? Or Chelsea? Or arsenal?

They have told the country they sing the most and have the biggest and most original songbook. They have a singers pub, with a bloke famous for penning their chants. No chance they will let that slip regardless of how shit they do cos it'll be something else they can say they are the best at.
It's all making sense to me now. Your a big fan of the man who's famous for writing their chants. They're very lucky to have him then, as decent song writers don't grow on trees. No doubt much of what they sing is old school, and written back in the days of the terrace culture. They've kept those chants going through periods of massive success. Very few of their supporters will know much about failure. It's not so easy to write inspiring chants about your team if they're not giving you anything on the pitch to get excited about.
I'm what most on here would call a happy clapper, and I try to see the glass half full. That's why I one was one of those praising the "Don't worry" chant. Personally, I'd rather we concentrate on trying to do things in our own way, than trying to ass lick supporters of other clubs for the way they show their support. One thing I've learned in business, is that bench marking isn't all it's cracked up to be, and it often stifles individuality.

The arrogant fools deserve all the failure that's coming their way.
Many of the glory hunters will have moved on already

All that just makes them seem a bit f***ing sad tbh. It's one step away from having cheerleaders or foam fingers.

Good post. I keep things simple. If you turn up, sing a lot and are original you're a good set in my book when it comes to supporting ya team.

Five threads on the front page about United or United players, this one being 10 pages long.

Even when we're shit, we're still box-office stuff to you lot. Times clearly have been hard these last few decades...

This is my new favourite forum - it's better than the United forums at the minute.

Any tips on how to cope with the piss takers? Amongst my mates I've got ones that support Leeds and Southampton, but I don't think "how can you talk" will cut it for this one.

Made me laugh this quote on red cafe

Its the best forum in the country, by some distance.

I like some of your lot but if ya going to be arrogant, may I ask when this revenge of yours is actually going to take place?

We keep hearing about it and nowt seems to happen?

It was supposed to be before the league game last year, but yous ran out the pub covered in blood....

It was supposed to be in the cup semi final as you marched to wembley....

It was supposed to be last league game at your place when you were going to put one of the final nails in our relegation coffin....

It was supposed to be Sunday...

Haway man, when is it???

Some of our fans have a constant need to pipe off over uniteds fans, let it go lads, they're not going to let you join in.

Give me 20 years of winning f***ing everything and I'll sing by myself for 90 minutes every f***ing game!

Would your song of choice be original?

It isn't the best forum by any stretch, it's far too tame. Nearly everything is public and most of it is absolute twaddle about Man United or Newcastle United.

The 'revenge' thing was funny - did you see that terrible picture doing the rounds after the last game of the season a couple of years back? I was in the home end that day, had as many people commiserating as there was people celebrating with a Poznan elsewhere in the ground. Most United fans are not bothered about Sunderland, just bitter about the way it went that day and use you as an easy excuse - myself included. I cheered when you got relegated at OT a few years ago, I feel we're even.

Well I still have a soft spot for yas stopping the mags in their stride and for the FTM banner at Roker Park.

I did both by the way, clapped your away fans when it looked like you'd done it. Then got stuck into the Poznan when it turned on its head. Football would be shite without a bit banter! ;)

... phenomenal tonight.

Nope, not at all. Phenomenal refers to support that has been through the mill and still turns up. In other words lets see what they are like after 10,20,30,40,50 years outside the top 6 before calling them phenomenal.
