Uncontested headers...

FuzzyThinkin

Full Back
Anyone else noticed that we seem to put a lot of headers where we're completely unchallenged straight to the opposition or into unoccupied areas of the pitch?...

Certain players were doing that with ‘regulation’ passes especially in the second half
Fortunately our work rate was so good we were able to ‘rectify’ this

I’m not advocating giving the ball away & there were times when we played out from the back extremely well on Saturday, but I think there’s something to be said for getting the ball up the pitch & winning it back there. We are all brain trained theylse days to expect us to keep the ball with 15 passes rather than risk losing the ball but putting players under pressure.

Alderete gets slagged off on here quite a bit for erratic distribution. He tries to play balls that will challenge the opposition more & create for us. He could quite easily have a better pass ratio going side to side.

Whilst I agree with you, Alderete does try some passes that aren't really on at times. I love what he's trying to do but maybe be a bit more selective when it's clearly not on. I still love the bloke like.

His passing has gotten worse recently. That’s what is attracting criticism

Oh aye, I agree. I think it’s the downside we’ll have to except from him to get the good bits. We’re moving it up levels above us to see centre halves as footballers who play forward passes & rarely get it wrong.

Reckon. I’d say he’s been similarly up & down all season.

He was great at the start…that’s why it’s noticeable

Yes you see keepers going longer again for this reason. Get the ball up there and swarm to win the second balls in the opposition half

It’s also the fact the opposition have analysed the fact he tries to play it forward so are cutting the passing lanes.

Premier league clubs quickly learn what the opposition are doing and stop it.
