UFC/MMA Thread - 2020

Probably alone on this, as he seems universally loved in the MMA community, but Rogan is starting to do my tits in as a commentator. Used to enjoyed listening to him, as he offered really good insight but he chatted a lot of pap last night.

The way he went on about how the round should be scored when Nzechukwu had a point deducted was reminiscent of Jonathan Pearce not understanding goal line technology at the WC.

Unsurprised with how the main event went, I wish Jorge had the energy to pile the pressure on when he stunned him.

There are obviously very real critiques of Rogan’s commentary that are absolutely valid, this isn’t new either as I can recall critiques from over a decade ago. For me, a problem arises if these are not genuine critiques but are shoehorned in because of contemporary political issues people may have with him and his podcast. I understand it can be difficult to uncouple those things, you can see it on this thread with how people feel about Covington etc.

I haven't listened to his podcast for years, enjoyed the MMA/Boxing guests he used to have on but less arsed about the conspiracy theory and politics stuff. This is purely an observation on him as a commentator rather than his views or anything else.

FWIW, I can't stand Colby. But that's due to the level of cringe of his patter. He tries to imitate Chael (who I loved, best in the business with a mic) but without the ability to form a cohesive sentence.

I went off Rogan's commentary a while ago, and I've never once listened to his podcast. Comes across as look at me more than owt else these days

Set my alarm for 4AM, back in bed by 0615AM and then back up before 9AM. Caught the Spivak finish by literal seconds, in bed seconds after the Colby-Masvidal result was announced. Done this quite a few times and it works well for me.

His commentary has been poor for a while now, it really spoils the fights sometimes. And for Colby, great fighter that I enjoy watching, but his patter is abysmal. 6th form nonsense.

I still think he offers the best insight and adds to the atmosphere in a way no other commentator can replace, admittedly that's just my opinion. As for Colby, he is an arsehole, that's it, I don't understand why people seethe over him, if it's just schoolyard shit, treat it that way, it's not important enough to get yourself chewed about.

Agree about Colby

Surprised no one mentioned Burns v Chimaev being confirmed.... An easy fight of the year contender...

UFC really need a new welterweight to step up as it's just gonna be Colby and Usman rematching for an eternity as they're miles above the rest

I like Burns but I am hoping Chimaev runs through him and is the new Welterweight that we need.
