UFC/MMA Thread - 2020

Could have just been that she was surprised that Pena could take her power early on. She's used to people backing up as soon as she hits them.
I just watched the fight again on You Tube this morning.

Having been slow to adopt the women's MMA game I'm coming around to it now (Rousey, Nunes etc. and now this).

1. The crowd - top MMA events are where its at these days and this was right up there. The crowd after just 20 seconds of the 2nd round could sense an upset and started going mental. Clips of Rogan and Cormier then the Pena corner were truly amazing.

2. Nunes - what a true champion. She's just been handed her arse by this unfancied little pip-squeak (I don't really mean this to sound disrespectful) and she stands there and applauds her like the rest of the by now rabid crowd. Then does the most gracious of interviews and walks out of the ring like it's just any another day. There are a lot of sports men and women who can learn from this woman. A true collosus of sporting endeavour.

3. Pena - stunning, just a stunning performance! Grit your teeth and forget about the pain then walk down a champion. Amanda Nunes FFS! The look on Pena's face at the end is fantastic and it genuinely took about a minute and half for the penny to drop.

It's a genuinely emotional experience watching that fight with next level displays from all concerned.

Well done all

Learned something new tonight about the UFC... That Heavyweight has a max size limit unlike Boxing.

How did I find out? Justin Tafa on the prelims first fighter to ever miss weight as a Heavyweight. Some fat fuck.
Yeah I think brock Leonard was the 1st to have to cut to hit weight. 265lbs innit.

I loved it and yes I am okay hun.

I get the same lump in my throat watching:
1. Red Rum romping home for a third national win,
2. Porterfield scoring the winner in 73
3. Ali beating Frazier in Manila
4. Us beating the rags at Old Trafford in 2015

It's the crowd, the atmosphere. It goes to another level.

Sport is amazing when it's done just right and that was a superb example - a Filet Mignon done to perfection
