TV licence

You have never been more wrong about anything in your life than you are about that

Well I suppose they would be better off financially. Otherwise it's total bollocks but that's just my opinion. Maybe we need a TVexit to sort it out once and for all.

The BBC no longer retains the respect and trust either at home or abroad, that once was the case.

I for one would get along happily without it and be happy to utilise my personal choice of the vast array of alternatives currently available.

It looks it is here to stay regardless.

To me personally the BBC is a decent institution and something worthwhile. It is certainly respected abroad as well. The news coverage is decent and well thought of along with it's other output I have mentioned.

The problem I believe if it were optional would be it would be even more open to abuse than it already is. I think that is the main driver of it today.
I think scheduled TV as a whole is now in its twilight years. Eventually there will be no TV broadcast over the airwaves and when this happens the BBC will have change forced upon it. No more TV licence

Love a good Beeb bashing thread.

Long live the licence.

I remember a poster on here once declaring he never ever watched BBC. Then a couple of weeks later declared Dr. Who to be his favourite ever TV programme. Wally.

This....the Beeb is top notch for its documentary content alone...planet earth/blue planet are two recent example amongst countless others.

Fucked if I'd want an ITV clone producing utter gash....

Having lived in Australia I know how bad TV can be - 10 times worse than ITV. The Beeb have it nailed really despite what those who do not appreciate it say.

It should be paid out of general taxation, wouldn't cost that much if everybody paid it and all those over the age of 75 who can pay more would then contribute.

If you live alone you pay the full whack yourself. Also make it harder to evade paying.

It was a blatant bribe George 'not so gorgeous' Osborne to keep the pensioners on side and resulted in poorer TV programming.

The BBC's bias against Corbyn in the General Election was a disgrace.

Live news and sports will always be in demand

Receiving Eu funding, a fact it tried everything in its power to try and hide, clearly demonstrates the BBC is no longer an independent unbiased organisation or news source, further proved by its endless anti Brexit propaganda campaign.

Much like the Eu it is also overloaded with costly deadweight bureaucracy.

Way past time it came out of the closet and stood on its own two feet.

I bloody hate that. One of the worst things ever made. But...... the terminally dumb seem to love it - it's very popular. The kind of people who laugh at a silly Irish accent love it.

And you see this is one of the things the beeb is about - diversity and providing for all communities in the UK - even the dumb.

The beeb isn't just about entertainment. It also has to provide for education, diverse communities and social cohesion.

Just this week my kids school had some BBC live lesson thing. Looked really good.

They'll just change the law to account for it.

There's no way they'll risk the beeb imo.

Radio still costs money to run, so if no licence fee=no radio.

Doesn't bother me anyhow, I don't listen to their radio service either, I was merely pointing out a fact :lol:

Heres a couple of scenarios......both true.
1. I have a caravan in Brighouse Bay (dg6 5ts) near Kircudbright. According to freeview coverage there is only limited channels available, none of which are bbc channels. Do i need a license? According to tv licensing i do! They tried to say as long as i watch live tv, i need a license. Bullshit.

2. I live in Crookhall, just outside Consett, and can see the Pontop Pike transmitter from my living room window. I can get full freeview coverage without an aerial, i dont even have anything going into the signal in input on the back of the tv. Do i need a license? Again, according to tv licensing i do. They said even if i dont watch bbc, as long as i can receive the channels i need a license. Again, Bullshit.

I dont have a license, and wont get one, because I DONT NEED ONE.

You need another license for your caravan ONLY if your tv at home and at the caravan is on at the same time, that's down to them to prove.

You DO NOT need a license if you do not watch live tv, just set your telly back to factory settings, then if they come out and ask to see if your tv is tuned in it won't be..

The alternative though is a model like in the states. The BBC generally ensures impartiality (I know some will moan like fuck about loony left and right whingers etc) when producing programs.

The BBC is anything but impartial as has been proven over Brexit, they received the queens charter on the condition that they remained fully impartial, as they have now proven that they are not they should lose the charter and have to move to a subscription service!

The Government have missed a trick with this problem.
They did not take into account the digital/online/streaming that came about at a rapid pace not so many years ago.

Previously it was simple
- If you own/buy a T.V. set -then you pay for a licence.

Wrong, you do not need a licence for a TV, you only need one if you are broadcasting live tv, lots use tv's for consoles and other stuff..

You mean like giving UKIP far more air time than their status deserved?

Perhaps you’re right, the non impartial bastards.

Let’s scrap the licence and hand over the remaining accountable press over to a handful of right wing billionaire press barons

I don't mind paying the TV licence, as I don't watch TV, but what I do mind is the goons they send out to knock at your door and claim they have a "legal right" to enter your property and check your equipment. They're bullies tbh.

One knocked at my door abt 6 months ago and when I refused to let him in, stating that I didn't need a licence, he argued that he NEEDED to check and tried to put his foot in the door so I couldn't close it. He was about 60 ffs. I'm not a violent person, ever, but I honestly came very close to punching him repeatedly in the face.

They have no legal right to enter your property. None whatsoever. They use bully tactics and words like "law" to scare people into letting them in.

I wonder how many single mums and old grannies they trick with that "legal right to enter" bullshit.
