Turning this mess around

I think this is rose tinted glasses stuff. We had a spell this season where we got whacked at Portsmouth, Sheff Wed and Rotherham, as well putting in horrorshow performances at home to bottom three Charlton and away to ten man Shrewsbury. There have been warning since about October, particularly with regards to the previous managers approach and the balance of our squad both in terms of age and quality.

We got off to a great start primarily because we played 6 of our first 9 at home (iirc). Once there was a balance between home and away, we dropped off.
What have we from away games is it 5 wins from 17? Diabolical

Shocking appointment. Don’t care about all the “give him a chance comments”. It’s not his fault he was appointed, and I wish him all the luck in the world. It’s just not what is needed atm. Roy Keane is what was needed. These players need a big f***ing shock and a manager to look up too.
Keane would have been a shocking appointment as his past record with us shows. His financial demands were obviously more than the club could afford and he would have spit the dummy as soon as things didn’t go his way. His bully boy attitude wouldn’t work now and his motivational skills are non existent. He would be a disaster waiting to happen.

I find it really hard to have too much of a go at the young lads who are being played every week, many in their first full season in senior football. Yes there are some poor players and some dire performances from almost all of them, but they are really learning on the job. However, the senior pros in the squad need to have a long, hard look at themselves and what they are contributing to this mess. Evans, Wright, Gooch and Winchester all have plenty of experience behind them and simply aren't performing well enough or doing enough to support the young lads in the team. Then we add Defoe, Baath, McGeady, O'Nien etc in too who are just recently here or injured and surely there has to be a burden taken by these senior players? You have to expect inconsistency from young lads playing their first season, and it's not to excuse them from poor performances - it's an explanation rather than an excuse. What's the explanation for the consistently poor, consistently hiding performances from the senior players?
This, 100%, but it's harsh to include O9 and Mcgeady in that, as they haven't played for months.

The players are just not good enough and I'm sick of us buying in players that are not fit or have failed at other clubs the only good signings being Stewart who we will lose next season and Pritchard though the new lad Matete looks decent but it's too late we won't go up this season we can't deal with pressure and the defence is not good enough.
I question what they do in training and the fitness regime because no other team in this league seems to have the amount of injuries we have.
I wish Alex Neil the best of luck but I don't think Pep would get this team promoted.

Strangely enough, I'm encouraged just in the fact that we didn't lose - which I think we would have more often than not this season.

Grinding out a point when you are struggling is half the battle, that and holding on to a win when the other side is coming on strong in the final few minutes.

FFS , totally disagree. Some good brave performances out there today , add to that the skilfull players that Neil has to work with , I think we will be having a good go at the playoffs.
The negative trash talk on here is desperately depressing mind.
“Brave performances”

We scraped a draw against the side that are 21st in the table, who managed to score first and who’ve won 2 home games all season.

f***ing hell

I think you’re wrong. And I think the poster you’re replying to is wrong too.

That’s two caricature assessment of Neil and Keane.

Just left the match and considered my thoughts. Ultimately we are too soft. Matete is a brilliant player but we are to defensive. We created next to nothing. Cirkin is very frustrating. Clarke has big potential. Pritchard is a good replacement for mcgeady but annoying we still sit 4 years later relying on the same output. We won’t get promoted unless a lot changes

how you can go from top of the league to this position in terms of points/position and performance in 43 days ( turn of year ) suggests something catastrophic has happened.

It’s not a caricature of Keane as his fallout with Fergie Mic Mac and Short shows his character give me what I want or I’ll walk which he has done on several occasions.

And the fact that they’re using ex players that people on here said weren’t good enough for us

Johnson was good on the mic too.
Was he? Sounded like a meeting with a project middle manager at work when he talked imo. All this guff about "position of maximum opportunity" and that.

You mentioned his past record with us. He’s the only manager in a lot of people’s lifetimes that has taken Sunderland to the top flight and kept them there first time.

Smith failed, Reid failed first time, McCarthy failed. Keane didn’t.
