Turning this mess around

Despite what the experts on here say, I think the players did really like Johnson. I know we'd been absolutely humiliated by Bolton but I really don't believe we'd only have gotten 1 point from the next 9.
Thought we'd lose on pens in the playoffs, now don't believe we'll even get there, passed caring. Another season in league 1 purgatory beckons. Wigan threw a team together from scratch and will go up, baffles me why we can't do this considering the advantages we have

Even more frustratingly their driving force is a player who was awful for us

They are capable of so much better as they have already proved this season. They are brittle and psychologically broken. No self confidence or belief.
Yep. That's the problem. Some of them can be very good but they need picking up off the floor. Some of the young lads in particular look broken. Hopefully after a bit of time with them Neil can get them firing again.

Despite what people are saying this squad isn't shite and it's shown that. Just some youngsters, inconsistency, and a bit fragile currently. Hopefully it can be sorted and we give the playoffs a good go.

I agree. I can't see a way back. You either have it or you don't
I dont think that's true, most of them are kids and will gain a bit of grit and confidence as they get older and more experienced. The problem is we have addressed the fact we haven't had any leaders for years.

Probably since Cattermole left, Evans was meant to but he looks less if a leader than the kids he's meant to lead.

We don’t have advantages. The club is a tainted and desolate place for a footballer to ply his trade.

I think the job Reid, McCarthy and Keane as well as most of our managers that rescued relegation from the premiership did proves that’s not the case. They all inherited teams absolutely bereft of confidence. A good manager can instil that and I think Neil will. Question is whether it will happen quickly enough to save our season.

The best we can hope is that common sense prevails and Speakman is sacked so we can prepare properly for another bash at League 1 next season.

I find it really hard to have too much of a go at the young lads who are being played every week, many in their first full season in senior football. Yes there are some poor players and some dire performances from almost all of them, but they are really learning on the job. However, the senior pros in the squad need to have a long, hard look at themselves and what they are contributing to this mess. Evans, Wright, Gooch and Winchester all have plenty of experience behind them and simply aren't performing well enough or doing enough to support the young lads in the team. Then we add Defoe, Baath, McGeady, O'Nien etc in too who are just recently here or injured and surely there has to be a burden taken by these senior players? You have to expect inconsistency from young lads playing their first season, and it's not to excuse them from poor performances - it's an explanation rather than an excuse. What's the explanation for the consistently poor, consistently hiding performances from the senior players?
How exactly are you blaming Wright, onien, McGeady who haven’t played for weeks or months exactly? Yes I’m sure it’s their fault

There's a massive crisis of confidence. Plus a reliance on players who are literally experiencing their first full league season. So there's a tiredness issue there as well imo, as annoying as that excuse may be. But I think it's true. Neil, Doyle, Cirkin. Add players like Pritchard and Clarke who have had injury problems. I think that's too many first team players who cant be relied upon to have the match sharpness and stamina required. But confidence and momentum are the main factors. The tiredness can be overcome, surely.

This is as low as it's ever been and it's a massive job to turn this group of players around. Making the playoffs should be considered an achievement for Neil.
I’d be amazed if we get there. Unless Neil can work a miracle.

or they change the data to a League One winning formula.

God knows what sort of team/squad/style he is trying to develop,

I'd rather a team full of 6ft+ ib=n every position and pump the ball forward; 4-4-2
